Yes
I have a BMW parked in my garden at present - owner did not leave the keys with me [ he's using my car at present as it is known that the BMW has a problem with it's front offside tyre ]

It has suddenly started to show a flashing red light [ warning ? ] under the interior rear view mirror.

Any idea what this is ?

I've tried to get hold of Mark [ owner] but not managed to raise him just now at 10pm

Are you sure that it has only just started doing that?

The reason I ask, though not a Beemer owner my Ford shows a flashing but not under the mirror to show that that the alarm system is active.

I had a quick Google and it seems that BMW location for that indicator light is under the rear view mirror.

Indicator lamp on the interior rearview mirror

▷ The indicator lamp flashes briefly every

▷ The indicator lamp flashes briefly every 2 seconds:
The system is armed.

▷ The indicator lamp flashes after locking:

The doors, hood or trunk lid is not closed properly, but the rest of the vehicle is secured.

After 10 seconds, the indicator lamp flashes continuously. Interior motion sensor and tilt alarm sensor are not active.

▷ The indicator lamp goes out after unlocking:

The vehicle has not been tampered with.

▷ The indicator lamp flashes after unlocking until the engine is started, but no longer than approx. 5 minutes:
An alarm has been triggered.

I'll admit I've not noticed it before

Hopefully you have given me the answer . I think the only reason I"ve spotted it now is - it's dark outside !!

Thanks for a bit of reassurance - I think it's just telling me it's armed

I'll keep all fingers and toes crossed till the owner gets back to me tomorrow morning - I'll post the comment from him then

Heard from Mark in the very early hours - yes that is normal and just shows that everything is OK :)

I hadn't seen that the previous night the car had been here - hence my panic
