blue dot in my photos

I have been using my camera which i got brand new and i noticed a blue dot in my photos and after clean the front lens it was still there so i used the in camera cleaning feature and that resolved my problem and its all good now. I dont see how dust got into the camera as i have never removed the kit lens since i got it the first day due to fear of dust getting into the camera however i bought a camera bag and figured maybe somehow the dust from the fabric inside the bag got into the camera somehow!?
Is this normal to happen?

Dust is fact of life with DSLRs, get used to it!


Is not really an issue, just clean the sensor when it needs it.

Dust in your camera, if it gets on the sensor, would usually show up as a dark smudge, not a blue dot. No idea what your problem could have been.

If it was dust, it could have been inhaled by the lens (no final "e"!) during zooming. Most (apart from high end, as in expensive) zooms do this, even some bridges and compacts. At least SLRs allow access to the sensor to remove the specks or/and have sensor shakers to do the job for you.

Dust is (unfortunately) a fact of life but sensor cleaning and/or cloning in PP can resolve the issue.

Take the kit lens off, put the blank cap over the camera and clean the back of the lens too.

There is also the chance this might not be dust - it could be a dead pixel/pixels or similar. Post a photo so people can better see.

Dust well get sharper and more defined the narrower the aperture used so go to f16 - f22 and take some shots of grey cloud or similar to see if this is the case.

Blue dot does sound more like a stuck pixel.
A lot of cameras have a means to remap the sensor then it will blend from adjacent ones and ignore the stuck one.

It is fairly 'normal' for one or two to stick sooner or later and not necessarily a fault if the remap works.
