Hi Folks

I'm waiting for my iMac to arrive and since it's my first foray into the world of Mac I'm reaching out for help.

Although it won't be the primary archive device, I'd like to be able to burn groups of finished sets onto physical media for off site storage and am therefor looking to get a Blu Ray Burner. Watching commercial Blu Ray Discs is of low importance but since I have the hardware I'd be as well get the software to facilitate this too.

Since Apple doesn't subscribe to the ethos of Blu Ray they have been a bit short on advice. Anyone here happy with their Blu Ray burning setup for Mac. If so - what do you recommend please?

Cheers.

I think probably the lack of replies shows the number of people using Blur Ray as an archive system. personally I'd never used a CD/DVD/Blue Ray as a form of archive.. I've had DVD's that became unreadable after a few years. And these were branded items not inexpensive unbranded. The disks uses a dye which changes on exposure to IR radiation. by definition this must be an unstable process. If you want additional off site storage, I'd opt for an additional external hard drive or cloud.

Thanks Simonblue. I've seen that article before but it doesn't do much to give informed choice between a number of players. Of the two they mention, only the LG is a current product.

Chappers. I didn't word things very well. I have offsite storage via the cloud but I just liked the idea of having some select photoshoots available on disk so that they were easy to distribute or present at will where there may not be good internet access. DVD is fine but the storage capacity is limited.

I'll have a closer look at the LG. It won't exactly break the bank if I end up not using it that much.

I agree to an extent. Although £1 will get me 25gb of Bluray storage which is great for passing onto client or keeping as secondary archive.

All the required drivers are already installed. Just plug it in and it will be able to use it to write to. I've got two and no issues whatsoever. Neither writing nor reading.
