Some of you may have seen my other post about upgrading to a 5D from a 550D, whilst keeping it on the QT from my missus.

Anyway I got it delivered to work and secretly snuck in the house this evening and made a bee line for the loft (my man cave). I stripped the 50mm off the 550 and put it on the 5 to be blown away!

It's like another word I'm seeing through the preview pane, the clarity of the shots, the atmosphere and ambience is just blissful. I've come from an Olympus EP-1 to a 5D in 2 years and feel like I've discovered perfection in image quality.

I'm yet to try the 70-200mm f/2.8 mk2 but expect another gushing post x

I love the DOF the full frame sensor allows me to experiment with and use daily. That was the single biggest change to me from upgrading from a crop camera with ISO performance a close second.

With full frame cameras you're probably going to be using longer lenses and longer lenses give shallower DoF than wider lenses for the same field of view.

For a "standard" field of view you can use a 50mm lens on FF but on APS-C it'll be 30mm (or so...) and on micro four thirds it'll be 25mm. So, as the sensor gets smaller and smaller you have to use wider and wider lenses to give the same FoV and so you get more DoF.

DoF will cause more arguments than almost any other subject...

With a larger format (bigger sensor) it's perhaps easier to get really shallow DoF, however, there's no such thing as a free lunch and the down side is that to get deeper DoF you may find yourself using smaller apertures and that may mean using longer shutter speeds and/or higher ISO's or perhaps even lead to having to use a tripod.

Someone needs to explain that one to me like i'm a 2 year old...

Sorry ment no offence, was just trying to say, what thought the op,was trying to say.

Maybe you should read the Important notice, about member being nicer to each other :shake:

I am seriously considering the same, and for the price of a new body and a second hand body I think I will go for the new one just looking around for the best deal at the moment

I wasn't being man, I genuinely want to know!

I think the big thing was when digtal DSLR first came out,a lot of photographer, who had SLR cameras and lens now found their wide angle useless, but also on the upside a lot of photographer who had long lens found they had greater reach.

Another thing is there were quite a few diffrent crops 2x,1.5,1.3,etc.

I went full frame,as soon as i could afford it.

If Nikon does bring out the D600,at a good price, maybe a few more photographer, will switch over to full frame, but i think there will still be a place for the crop sensor. :)

Congratulations on your new purchase

It always amuses me to read how crop SLR owners who move up to full frame are blown away by the size of the viewfinder, depth of field and wider angle of view, when all these things were taken for granted for years by 35mm film users

It just goes to show, technology doesn't always move everything forward..

A.

It sort of does. Full frame Digital is an option for those that want to pay for it, technology allows cheaper options if required.

And it goes without saying the digital has moved photography forward by a massive amount for 99%+ of people
