Kids these days seem from a totally different species to the rest of us, If I was to of treated/talked to people they way they do now my dad would of knocked me into next week, they have lost all respect these days:thumbsdown:

I'm only 30 and can fully agree with this. The way I've heard some children talking to adults I know, well put it this way, if ever I'd even thought of it, I'd only have done it once, and likely have been unable to sit down for a week.
Just last week I was watching a child telling the parents what they were going to do, and in utter disbelief the parents did!

I agree with all of the above. My daughter has her dad wrapped round her little finger. And the way she talk to him sometimes (i step in). I am not backing down on this one. He Wants it he pays for it but that is not going to happen so no sky sports...

I'm hardly surprised kids feel alienated if that's the general consensus on their worth in society. If this was taught as a model for learning and discipline we'd have far fewer problem. The trouble arises when we go on disciplinary power trips with our kids.
Children need to be encouraged to be self-referential as early as possible, not that they're naughty and should do as adults tell them. All this does is create rebellious teens.

That worked for me I feared my Dad and stayed out of trouble(mostly
) and our relationship is great.Kids have no respect for anybody these days least of all there parents.
I'm only 30 so like to think I'm not that long in the tooth that I can't relate to them but they are a different breed these days

do not get me wrong my kids are not angels but who's are? but they are good kids. they work hard get good grades polite and well manered. Pity they spoil it sometimes..

Wow, such much hate directed towards kids! Of course, kids these days are completely different to those around when you were young :bang: Come off it! There were bad kids in your day just like there are now. Take off the rose tinted glasses, stop getting sucked in to the 'yob' spin put on youths by the gutter-paper mentality and drop the degrading and alienating tone towards the younger generation. Lol if my parents put me in boarding school, then when i thought i was free then have to go to university and finally realise sky sports was cancelled I think i would be mega ****ed too.

there seems to be a lot of anger towards kids and they can never seem to do right, for example i was walking past the skateboarding park and a load of old ladies where complaining about the kids in there so...
if they spend too much time inside on the xbox they are lazy, if they spend too much time in the skateboard park they should get a job, if they get a job they shouldn't be too eager to grow up. For gods sake they were minding their own business, not hurting anyone and were not out being abusive, rude and anti social, yet they still cant do any right.
I find the old generation are rude, offensive, very opinionated and even outspoken about the younger people who are sometimes just walking along minding their own business

Having the fear of god put in to you doesn't work for everyone - and I think I should know. While I am a very polite person in real life as a result of my upbringing (because if I wasn't 100% polite all of the time, all hell was let loose), I also have serious confidence issues among other "difficulties", that I know for a fact are the result of my ... odd... upbringing..
The23rdman sounds like a great father, it's just a shame that more people aren't like him.

Undoubtedly there are some very fine young men and women around today and the world will hopefully be a better place for them. However ... there are also a great number of those who think the world owes them a living and are disinclined to do anything productive in society ... those need a good kick up the backside to help them see the error of their ways and point them in the right direction.

My son is 21 and in full time education away from home. There are times that I despair; only recently he changed his accommodation going back to "halls" but failed to give us the full information about when & how the deposit had to be paid, so we didn't pay it. When he called the day he expected to pick the keys up I explained that we'd asked him a number of times but as he hadn't responded we thought he'd decided not to move. We got the problem sorted that day (and were ready for it), we just wanted him to take some responsibility.
Even when he was at home we treated each other with respect. He knew what our "house rules" were and things like dirty washing didn't get done until he put it in the wash bin. He's an only child and we probably have spoilt him once or twice over the years but an interesting thing he often says is "I don't understand how my friends fall out with their parents, you've never been anything but straight and true with me."

Come live with me for a few days and watch the local "misunderstood" kids, it's like a Nat Geo special they don't give a crap about anyone.
In the last week I have had my g/f verbally abused while taking rubbish out a 12yr old boy climbing a tree and trying to remove my guttering and my car scratched because I told him to get down.
They have no fear of adults or authority and are a law to themselves.
I wasn't an angel as a child by any means but as a 30yr old 6ft 2" 17 stone ex soldier there is no way I would walk to the local Spar after dark for fear of attack and mostly for fear that if I defend myself I'll be the one in court not the fine upstanding misunderstood youth.

I just got him, told him he could have Sky sports back.. but i would stop his Gym membership at both gyms that he is a member at and stop his contact lens payments too.. "i'll think about it" is what i got back..oh and got a posting back to the NE because i didn't any to miss out on any more time with him.
oh and just so you can see why the CbbC comment made me laugh this is him last summer..
