Bloody Football

This thread has really livened up, that's cool. (y)
Its good to see that freedom of speech is alive and well, and living in TP Towers.

Talking of tolerance / intolerance.
The team that knocks "your team" out of a "very important match"
I'm sure you would buy them all a drink at the next opportunity.
After all its only a game :)
I would most definitely. And have done and have also been on the receiving end of it.

Yeh. Probably in a gay bar
I would most definitely. And have done and have also been on the receiving end of it.
Well that's very magnanimous of you both
Its good to see that that the dislike or even hatred of other teams and their fans is a thing of the past. :)

What a "toy team" - they score a goal and dislocate the physios ankle - you just could't make it up.

Sorry the phsio did that to himself, stood on a water bottle as he jumped up apparently.

Still, don't let the truth ruin your assumptions ;)

Its still very ironic, which ever way you look at it though :D

so he wasn't celebrating the ONLY England goal then ….. the incident happened at some other time in the game did it?

News "water bottle contributes to England's downfall"

Probably how the match will be remembered

They are a pretty sh1t team

The alleged 'water bottle' incident goes a long way to dispel the myth that the England Team can walk on water.

I was proud watching the 70 D-Day celebrations last week but last night just pales into insignificance.

what are you taking about - did you watch the match - had England not scored their ONLY goal the Physio would not have jumped up unless maybe he jumped up at exactly that time for another reason

but, straight from the donkey's mouth
"In celebrating the goal he jumped up, landed on a water bottle and dislocated his ankle," said boss Roy Hodgson."

That is the truth

and further

"Members of the England football squad visited an orphanage in one of the favelas today. 'It is just heartbreaking to see their sad little faces completely devoid of any hope ' commented Felipe Silva , aged 6"

Or an alternative is you being over sensitive, outraged by proxy or you lacking in ability to understand. There's no back peddling going on, but if you wish to put a meaning to something that quite clearly is not there, so be it.

So now we have sorted that out, please defend football, or is sexism, racism homophobia (thats real homophobia, not your imagined version), violence and corruption perfectly acceptable in the 'beautiful game'?

i got about half way through that and realised Egypt haven't even qualified for the finals! Load of tosh!

Is Bernie174 going on about me - or have I missed something

No Bill, I am answering people who can't define things they accuse others of.
Although, as you mention it, I nearly choked when I read your orphanage thing.

I "stole" the quote from another forum …….. but as usual after an England loss, the jokes will come rolling in

I've got used to being misunderstood on here, or, more particularly people add their own meaning to what I said and twisting it slightly

Just goes further to prove, that its not just a game after all.
Its a way of life, a religion if you will. ;)

Not sensitive, no proxy either, nor misunderstanding.

Why would I defend football as a whole? Such a cop out and yet further deflection from the things that you wrote. This is about the here and now, not righting the whole world. And if I was there when someone expressed such sentiments as well I would also pull them up on it. And in a professional capability it would become an HR issue.

You must be a real wow at parties :-)

Why? Because I don't laugh at derogatory jokes? Sounds more like we prefer different kind of parties.

It is the kind of thing that can ruin a team. It happens, oh most definitely. Have seen it many a time in my platoon, squads, pelotons. And had to deal with it and at various agencies. It's not constructive, it breaks up teams, gets unions involved. Just plain messy and unnecessary.

All "lost in translation" to me

We did once live and work in Amstelveen for almost a couple of years, (1978/9), and found it very pleasant

I'm just thinking that you could probably take what is supposed to be a lighthearted thread party, get a wee bit indignant, and wind up in the corner with a glass of shandy and a bag of Wotsits

Now, just to explain it to you one final time, I really do not care what you think. I stand by a humorous comment. NOTHING derogatory was said about anyone Gay, ergo there is NO homophobia. I did say something about footballers, I implied that the game they played was pointless. Now, I don't care if footballers are offended.

In the words of Reginald D Hunter. "Ain't no one ever died of being offended".

You imply you were military, I am pretty sure you didn't last very long with that attitude. Or was this ACF?

Let us know when you return to the real world please....(Is that Alienist????)

He mentions platoon so I think that JP is Dutch, plus orange wigs and of course the name j dejong - as I have said I spend a lot of time in The Netherlands, plus lived there and the Dutch are marvellous people

Yep. I couldn`t hack being gay, imagine being turned down by men as well as women.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Never had that problem myself.

To me the World Cup isn't so much about football, but backing your countries best and showing some support. E

But we're crap... and it's embarrassing. I'd rather not thanks.

If you want to fly the flag and use sport as a means of being patriotic, then support F1... at least we're good at that.

What annoys me is how people are only patriotic during football tournaments.

I'm not gonna like the post per se :D
But I agree with that comment ;)
