Bloody Football

For those of you that just can't get your head around why some people will be miserable and irritable during this world football thingy everyone's on about.. please read this.

Now if the archeological digs were in competition with other countries in the world, to get to the unique dig and find the treasure I would be interested in it.

To me the World Cup isn't so much about football, but backing your countries best and showing some support. Even for the things you may not find all that interesting.

I think it is good to be proud of your country and get involved.

11 precious prima donna's pirouetting around with the occasional swallow dive in the heat of S America followed by a press conference full of excuses is and will be the order of the day

touch them and they will fall down - they would loose against the Brazilian womens side who are far tougher

What a "toy team" - they score a goal and dislocate the physios ankle - you just could't make it up.

Well they are brittains best. Would you prefer to send the homophobic, miserable moaning gits that seem to comment on them instead? Or rather that England is not promoted at all to the world?

I'm proud of my country, are happy to support them. And it provide me joy seeing so many happy and sad emotions. These are our fellow human beings and country men. In my opinion we should unite opposite to make some stupid homophobic insinuations.

Personally couldn't give a monkey's about who wins what wether it be football or who can jump the highest or run fastest,or be the best, simply not important to me, a lot of wasted time, not constructive in any shape or form, just seems to make the numpties miserable when they lose.

Does it really make you feel so much intellectual superior to call those who like to support their country or enjoy a game of football, or as you are insinuating enjoy competing in anything a numpty.

Oh the irony of such a statement.

That's all very well...and good for you, but the thread title might have suggested to you that your support here will fall on the ears of those who simply don't care about the football. It doesn't mean they don't feel pride for their country. Nor does it make them homophobic or miserable. It merely means we dislike the spectacle of a sporting event in which the England team have zero chance of success.

I'm not superior to anybody, just a bloke with an opinion, you are the one getting wound up.

as opposed to the over payed, narcissistic, pansies we have sent to represent us. I don't think they are Britain's best on any level at all.

I agree with your sentiments - I don't think football is the way to do that though.

I'm not sure how those sentiments sit with extensive coverage of (for example) Spain v Netherlands either. Who cares?

I'm not wound up at all. You are the one who first uses derogatory terms to describe those with a different opinion to you. And then when they disagree accuse them of being wound up.

Lol no chance, in my opinion you are just showing up yourself by using such language.

I'm not sure which footballers you think are better to represent the UK.

I'm quite happy with the Spain Netherlands coverage in the UK :) seriously though, in order to win a competition it is good to understand what the other teams are doing. Further more, a lot of the Dutch and Spanish players play for UK based teams. And the Dutch coach will start with some northern English club next year.

I don't follow football normally. It is not one of my interests. However I do enjoy the international competitions.

Yes exactly

I'm questioning if our current crop of footballers are good (as you say) representatives for the UK at all?

Its hardly representing England though is it?. Which was the point you were trying to make. Enjoying it is cool. I wish is wasn't forced on those of us who don't anything like as much though, which is the point of this thread.

Sorry but looking back at the comments made in here, and only one person saying that it is not acceptable I think that is a rather poor show. Quite sad actually that that is still going on today.

Seriously...what on earth are you talking about? As the thread title suggests, this thread was clearly begun to cater to those who were tired of the overwhelming 'spectacle' of the world cup before it had even begun.

You're not a stupid person I'm sure, so you had to have known that posting your supoort for it here would arouse the kind of responses you are receiving. Therefore one can only surmise that you're doing it just to rile others.

Disliking the sport or tge tournament doesn't make a person anti British. ..homophobic...or anything else, indeed your posts make you seem to be the one intolerant of others opinions.

I am a tad old fashioned and I'm very much behind the principle of England and St George, even though I have have English, Irish and Welsh blood, and I was born in Cyprus (annoys HR Departments when they ask me what I consider my ethnicity!), but 'game' holds no nationalist pride for many and does nothing to represent the best of England.

Success at football is a result of how much cash you chuck at it. It is the most corrupt pastime in the UK, and the world as a whole.

Its is sexist, how many women in the England team? I mean real women buy that! None. In fact how many women in the entire competition? None. Gay footballers are pilloried by supporters and other players. In fact it has a whole host of 'ists' against it's name!

Some of us realise it's a pointless and corrupt pastime, and some of us can't get excited it.

You're a football fan - you enjoy the world cup. We get it & its your prerogative to do so. Some of us don't though. It bores us to tears. The only poor show is the guy who thinks everybody should be the same and enjoy exactly the same things as he does. ;)

Not at all posting in here to rule others. Why such negativity and focus on the most likely worst intentions of people. There is already another big thread for people not liking the football, and I'm definitely not posting in there as that would be thread spoiling.

As you may have noticed, my comments aren't related to whether you like football or not. And I didn't take it from the OP that it was strictly about that. More in relation to the media focus on it. Hence I attempted to provide my perspective on why even when you don't like football it can still be fun and good to support your country.

And you are right, a dislike of football doesn't make you homophobic. Just as liking football, playing football or heaven forbid hugging another person of the same sex or giving them a kiss doesn't make you gay. ;) my comment wasn't against people who don't like football. It was firmly against some of the utter shameful comments made in this thread.

Not saying that everybody has to be the same. However if you don't like something there is also no need in my opinion to utilise derogatory towards those that do enjoy that. I think that is nasty and unnecessary.

The title "Bloody football" didn't for one moment clue you in?

When has the England football team in the last 20 or 30 year made you "proud" of whatever - I always dread them playing and am totally disinterested in football but we all know what the outcome will be - they will just loose and moan - "Bloody England Team Football"

Just to clear up some confusion in your mind Homophobia encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender

Nothing in any comments made here do any of that. In fact, the only negative implication was against footballers. There isn't a footballaphobia, or footballism, any more than say Policism, or Policaphobia. I don't think the outrage by proxy does you any credit.
You speak of support of Englishness, but want to stifle one the greatest things about England, our sense of humour.

I love every minute of it too.

This thread reeks of hypocrisy, self righteous indignation, ignorance, double standards and sneaky, back stabbing cowardice. The end!!

which would you rather watch the Eurovision song contest or England play football?

A Bearded Lady versus a guy with a field transplanted on his head

No contest really …..

I didn't I'm so thick I haven't learned to read yet. I have a man come in to do that for me.

Now, I've no time for this inane babble. Sunday service awaits.

No. I have no interest in football whatsoever. It doesn't matter if it's the world cup or a local team playing in the park.

I don't care if people like football or not, however, I do think it's strange when people who can't stand football (I'm thinking about some of the women at work) say that they will watch the world cup games just because it's the world cup... It's still football!!!

Actually I'm not a football fan at all. But yes I do enjoy a World Cup

Yes... that!!

And a message from my pedantic side to a couple of people posting here - it's lose, not loose!

Steve.

Bit of an enigma our Brash, politically correct skinhead that takes photos of birds, so why not, I suspect he's swaped his bover boots for a nice pair of running pumps and is probably a much nicer chap than he likes to make out.:runaway:

I know really - just banter - he needs to hurry up as he's giving the sermon

This thread has really livened up, that's cool.
Its good to see that freedom of speech is alive and well, and living in TP Towers.

Talking of tolerance / intolerance.
The team that knocks "your team" out of a "very important match"
I'm sure you would buy them all a drink at the next opportunity.
After all its only a game :)

Yeh. Probably in a gay bar

Sorry, but I disagree. Back peddling by trying on some personal technical distinction, and blaming others for a lack of humour is exactly why your comments were inappropriate and unacceptable.
