bloody facebook

If you're on Android you can most definitely stop all notifications from facebook without leaving, I made sure I did it - I hate notifications with a passion, there are few things I really need to be notified about in life.
"Switching off" notifications both on my phone and from FB didn't work for me!
And as to signing me back in, after I'd signed out, well, either my phone or or FB is haunted...

Must be an Android thing as my iPhone doesn't give me this problem...
Nor did my android until very recently.
But as above its sorted now, email address changed to a "throw away" one that I never use in conjunction with the phone.

FB owns your life, probably knows more about you then you do about yourself. So glade I never signed up.

Edit: I should add that it's bad enough being owned by Google, which I am.

Another intrusive "eye in the sky"
but I saw that one coming, and I don't have a google account for the very reason...
So glade I never signed up.
However, I must admit, never saw FB intrusive manner coming, luckily,
I only ever post crap on there, nothing personal or family related ever goes onto FB.

I see this is popping up on the top bar now....

Add your phone number to help secure your account and more.

Erm, I don't think so Face book, I really don't!

Ah, but so many mindlessly will.

I do actually have my phone number registered with them, never been a problem with receiving notifications but when my account was hacked
it did save the day, they used the registered number to verify and reinstate the account, it's been there for a number of years without problem
but then I don't often answer numbers I don't recognise

What if you don't have/use a google account?

You would struggle to do anything with android device, get any apps, etc.

iOS users obviously would be similarly concerned with apple recording their every move, same with Win / MS devices. The only difference is google lets you see how much they got from you!

If you are on desktop, and not signed in to any search engines or OS profiles you are better off, but the govts and companies can still sort of track you by cookies, and metadata such as browser, window size, location, OS - they can still pretty much tell who is who.

Good plan, however, there is no data on there, I clicked it and it asked me to active it. I typed in f*** off, :D but it didn't seem to get the message. :D

FWIW i think he meant within settings -> apps. find facebook and theres normally a clear app data/cache option (under storage sub menu). along with the uninstall option. also options to block all notifications for the app.

essentially your browser history. turn on incognito mode and stuff wont appear there. but yes google will store browser history and bookmarks if you are using their sync between devices options.

If you are on desktop, and not signed in to any search engines or OS profiles you are better off,
only way you'll be better off soon is an offshore non logged VPN service. hooray for the IP Bill.

also, that google location tracking isn't massively accurate all of the time.

apparently last week i was in a cemetary approx 0.5 miles where I suspect it meant i was (my parents house). should be taken with a pinch of salt.

edit: looking through, there are MANY places listed I've never been to. maybe driven by perhaps. some are wildly innacurate

Indeed there is, but none of it prevented the message / notifications coming through.
I had to set up a new registered email, that wasn't associated with my phone, and delete the other two.
That sorted it.

Only there?
I'm still learning from the best

Yes, but what about a list of your android app interaction? That would be same if someone recorded every time you flush the toilet or open the fridge. Next "they" will somehow read or predict your mind; apparently amazon already does it http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/01/17/amazon-wants-to-ship-your-package-before-you-buy-it/

I am for the technology and progress, but in some ways we have gone badly sideways.

got a link where i dont have "To Read the Full Story, Subscribe or Sign In". i dont just give my details away like some :D

Just seen a warning on my FB timeline, a friend has warned that two people requesting friendship names are Christopher Davis and Jessica Davis are in fact HACKERS. Don't whatever you do accept the request. There you go, watch out for them, I've shared the message.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but you did you go into Facebook to change what notifications and sounds you get?I know some are then overriden by your mobile settings. I never get any notifications on my iphone even though I have the app loaded.

edit; Sorry missed the post above saying you got it sorted... I skipped reading a few that I thought were regarding privacy in general

No Worries, in case you missed it, I turned off the notifications from both FB and my android, and they were still getting through!
No idea how...
