Is becoming far too intrusive.
I have friends around the world. Just recently I have been getting notifications on my phone day and night. (I use the web not The app)
1) Set notification sound off ...
that didn't stop them.
2) set notifications to account notifications only
that didn't stop them.
3) changed email address to one's that are not associated with the phone.
that didn't stop them.
4) finally decided to log out.. yes definitely logged out.
guess what? The bloody thing logged itself in this morning!

You can turn the notification sounds off
Click the arrow next to the padlock and choose settings from the dropdown menu

In the next bit click Notifications

Next screen hit on facebook and edit

Then sound off on the top 2 bits notification and message, stops all the sounds but you still get the red bits on the top bar
telling you about them

Yes you guessed, I had the same problem a while back

You sure the app isn't installed and working? you won't normally get push notifications via a browser.

You do, even on a laptop, mine used to ping when someone replied or mentioned me, damned annoying, and at night on the phone :runaway::banghead:
I got to the point where I was about to shut down FB till someone told me how to silence it (y)

Same here!

Yep done all those as above
And it was still working until I actually logged out!
The act of it login me back in again p***ed me off more than anything!.

The app is there, (Can't even delete it!) but its definitely not signed in, along with all the others TBH.
I go straight to web.

turn your fone off at night.

Out of the question for a few reasons..
Besides I don't see why I should be inconvenienced by doing so, because of FB intrusive and aggressive marketing.

l rarely have my phone online except when l need to, thst stops any online stuff making a noise overnight
including damn emails, but facebook does seem to do odd things then go back to what it was before, l keep it
to keep in touch withnpeople l don't have a lot of contact with otherwise

Do not disturb function. Very useful. Phone is silent, and will only ring if certain people call it. For anyone else it will remain silent.

I have never had any notification noises from FB and I have never adjusted the settings for it to be so. But can't you mute just the FB notifications on your phone and leave all the other phone notification noises audible.

Gremlin maybe right, I've never had any kind of notification from any browser for FB though. You can kind of disable the app on your phone (assuming it's Android?) by uninstalling it (takes it back to the minimum install) and force closing it. There are also apps that can 'freeze' it (Titanium Backup is one) but they usually need the phone to be rooted.

Exactly on both counts, and to prove a point, its just logged me back in again so I can receive a notification that is turned off !!!

Sounds like a plan, but I don't think that my phone has that option..

Yes I have done! that's the point as above.
You can kind of disable the app
As above the app is not active ( i've triple checked)

by uninstalling it
I've tried that too, and it won't let me (and yes it is an android)
There are also apps that can 'freeze' it
 but thats kinda the point as well, I shouldn't have too :(
But I guess I'll have to go back and consult google yet again.....

Can you delete all data from the FB app, even though you can't delete the app itself? That might remove your login details & stop it calling home.

Good plan, however, there is no data on there, I clicked it and it asked me to active it. I typed in f*** off, :D but it didn't seem to get the message. :D

Am I glad I'm not on FB :D
And its 50/50 at the moment whether or not, I'll still be on there tomorrow!

Can you name any reason why Facebook should bother to improve? In any way?

Dump them and go somewhere else. It's fools complaining, and yet still staying with them, is the reason they can be as crap as they want to be. And laugh in your face.

Fair point well presented..

Although I think I've sorted the gits out, I went into the disable apps, as suggested, just to double check, and guess what? the email address that I deleted, from FB is now showing on the App although there was nothing there yesterday.
I've been meaning to ditch Google, on my phone, in favour of Opera, (as I have on my desk top ) years ago.
The associated email address that miraculously appeared was a Gmail one.
Just added a few bookmarks to the phone, (I'd collected dozens over the years  )
All cache's cleared and many more apps disabled, there was rather a lot of google associated ones on there too! All rather drastic I know, but I've been meaning to do this for ages ...
And of course not signed in to FB on the web.
What you got now FB? Eh?

 !

Buy non smartphone or leave facebook

All I could offer up, can imagine its rather annoying though

Only problem with ditching Google for Opera is....they're both Chrome. That said I use opera on everything and it doesn't bug me at all, apart from adding stupid bookmarks every time it upgrades.

Chrome copied a lot from Opera remember. Which has been around way longer than Chrome.

Buy non smartphone
It was my kids telling me I needed to get with it, :D TBH I've only had one about 5 years, it was old style Nokia's all the way before that.
leave facebook
Seems this have solved the problem ( for now )

Yes I know its based on Chrome, and therefore was quite an easy switch for me to make, as I'm not a fan of massive change, I just like it because its cleaner and once I got used to the speed dial, ( didn't take long)
I prefer that to the bookmarks bar ( yes I know Opera has one too).

Oh, I didn't know that! I wasn't aware of Opera, until quite recently 2-3 years, possibly less.

I still don't see why you couldn't just switch off the notification in your phone's set up.

I've been an opera fan since I got a free copy (you had to pay for it back in the stone age) on a 1990's magazine floppy disc. I ripped my heart out when they went to Chrome instead of sticking to their own programming but with no choice, I got used to it. Apart from video playback it's still the best browser out there.

As above, I did, you can't can't turn them all of from FB, you have to leave "important notices" about your account,
and somehow it got over ridden! I could have turned off the phone, but that isn't an option for "personal reasons"

Can't argue with that. I tried FF for awhile, ( on recommendation from a few people) and I really didn't like it.

I'm not talking about turning off the notification in FB, I'm talking about the notification in your phone's set up where you can have a different ringtone/notification for each contact etc.

Yes I realised that and no, that didn't work either. it seems that FB was overriding "everything"
Still, as above, I sorted it!

I use the DND function on both my iPhone and Samsung Galaxy.

It goes on automatically when it is my bed time, and will deactivate automatically in the morning. Only those people who are on my VIP list will get through. I had to do that as I work with people all over the world and the time zones mean flurries of WhatApp, FB, Skype, Email at all sorts of hours during the day. DND works brilliantly. Actually the implementation on Android was even better as it would also automatically apply if I am in a meeting. I find it so unprofessional to have my phone beep and buzz all the time when I should be focussing on those that I a with.

HTC one, not sure that it has that function?

edit a quick google suggests that its on later models, than mine ... b****r.
There are a few DND apps on the play store, may be worth trying one of them, save messing about with the settings for each individual app.

Thanks but its settled down now, I'll leave it alone and not play with the settings for fear of waking up the dragon again :D

I thought it would be like beetle juice and I'd to say it 3 times :(

I'm not deaf you know :bat:
Now you've sorted that what's your next whinge gonna be, you're worse the Victor Meldrew :p

If you're on Android you can most definitely stop all notifications from facebook without leaving, I made sure I did it - I hate notifications with a passion, there are few things I really need to be notified about in life.
