weekly Blondies 2012 52 wk52 BUSY - Finished !

As Andy Lynne, #1 gets my vote, lovely vivid colours. A creative and original take on the theme makes it a winner for me.
My only small critique would be to see the space/border around the fruit to be more even. Not sure how it would work with the orange and lemon being different size but its just something that caught my eye.
I am with you on mineral  I have been thinking about it since this morning but no ideas have come to mind yet. Iain

Straight - great idea, similar to what I tried to achieve but I think you did it better. Nice road choice.

Letter - good thinking, why not it is on theme!! Nice picture as well.

Contrast - both great pictures but I think #1 says contrast to me better. Nicely done and good colour matches.

I may have an idea for mineral but need to do my contrast first!

Hi...

Contrast #1 is a cracker. The colours are really vivid and I like the composition and the diptych works well. Overall lighting is good and well done for not having any shadows.

Contrast #2 has potential and quite a few Contrasts, but compared to #1 lacks something. The BG isn't to my liking and there seems to be a lack of detail in the rose (in the whites).

#1, though, would look good on your wall and the signature is a nice added touch

Cheers and are you going to the National Memorial Arboretum meet tomorrow or the bike thingymabob?

Cheers.

Thanks matey ....Contrast felt like a cop out as so simple , did have a slight shadow which needed a little attention in pp but was only using natural light & shadows are REAL

Not 100% on the rose but it's growing on me , the BG is the garden fence , all freshly painted in forest green & darkend a tad in pse to increase the contrast twist it & the white rose . Not sure about the detail in the whites...viewed it large on flickr & seems better :thinking:can even see the little bug on the rh petal :D

Jury's still out for tomorrow , Cadwell is my prefered choice at the mo , need to get out on the bike but depends on the weather & how early I drag my butt out of bed . Have a fun day at the NMA & look forward to seeing the shots:thumbs:

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - Love the composition and idea, but I would prefer the colours a little stronger / more vibrant. But then I always say that :)
Letter - Absolutely lovely. Not obviously on-theme, but not so off-theme that it bugs me.
Contrast - Love the fruit! Again my preference is for super-bright colours but they are already pretty bright. I like the flower as well, it reminds me strongly of one of my photos.

Thanks for popping & commenting Vicky , much appreciated

Thanks Iain...I know what you mean about the space round the fruit..tried it slightly bigger round the lemon but it still looked a bit odd..think , as oyu say , it's the difference in fruit size that makes it hard .

Have had 1 thought for mineral but not sure I still have the prop...off for a hunt & look forward to seeing your take on the theme

No problem! Not sure where time is going to at the moment and I am seriously behind with commenting. Good job there isnt 100+ still on with the challenge.

Oh I forgot to mention the cows, that one on the left looks quite serious!!!! I like that one as well. Both good for straight!

love no.1 nice original take on the theme

Love contrast number 1 goes to show the simple ideas are often the best

the cow on the left of the straight pic looks very mean

Contrast - great minds on the fruit theme?? I really like that idea of yours. PP presumably - how did you do it? I'm trying to catch a series of shots like yours or mine to enlarge very large to go on our kitchen wall. Hope you don't mind if I steal your idea?

Thank you kindley...the cow on the left was the bravest of them & even licked my hand....

cheers Mike....very little pp for change , just a slight lighten of a small shadow....one piece of yellow card, 1 piece of orange card , 2 fruits & job's done

Week 31....only thought I had was mineral water....& really couldn't get excited about messing around with lighting blah blah blah to get the sort of image you see in adverts . Then I remembered this , was a present from my pa when I was a groom to a beautiful Dutch Warm Blood stallion of the same name...the stone was considerably easier to look after

So I give you....Augite :

Mineral by llj666, on Flickr

Thought I'd have a play with the extension tubes on the macro lens..all 3 of them so DOF was silly stupid but wanted to try n show some of the texture . Almost got the focus right , just missed a little on the pointy most bit . Added the text as it's essentially a very boring image. The brown patch's are rust presumably caused by the Iron content .

Will be round later in the week to see everyone else's takes on this odd theme

Hi, Lynne, how big is it?

On theme and well done for that. Is it one photograph or stacked?

BG is nice and the text adds to the story. Bit of a contrast boost may bring out some more detail in the rock

2 idea attemps so far for me...epic fails :bonk:

Have another, but need to get hold of Jackie's jewellery :D

You missed a cracking meet on Sunday :D

Cheers.

hi

Contrast - like both of these. So different and difficult to choose. #1 is very bright and a big pick me up. Super idea of colours and fruit on the opposites. My only crit would be that i would like to see the fruits centred just a little bit more.

#2 - I find this type of shot very appealing - very painterly and resonant of Dutch still life painting. good composition, altho i think that the teeniest, teeniest bit of more brightness on the subject would suit my tate more.

#1 best for the theme but #2 is the one that i would want on the wall.

Mineral - good colours but not as much detail as i would like - may be a different lighting with the texture showing up more:thinking: Bit too tightly cropped on left for me.

mineral is a good shot and I especially like the text, makes it look like a page from my 'pocket guide to minerals'

A good take on mineral, would like to have seen left side back edge in focus as well. This would add a bit more texture as Alan mentioned.

Contrast – I definitely like #1. These use of the opposite colours as backgrounds has been cleverly handled.

Mineral - The use of the text is in interesting idea which suits the overall subject and image well.

Hi Lynne,

contrast - I love the fruit pic it would look great up on a kitchen wall, a good fresh picture!!

Mineral - I like this one as well, DOF is a nightmare with macro and something that I struggle with! I like the addition of the words again not something I would of thought of but it works really well!!:):)

Good picture of a rock you have I do like the writing on it to explain what it is. This was a really difficult week

Cheers Andy....the piece of Augite is approx 1/2 the size it appears in the image & is one image , stupid high f number , on a tripod with self timer activated as the extension tubes seem to make the camera even more susceptible to movement

Thanks Allan , glad you like contrast 1...positioning the fruits was a mare cos of the difference in size n shape..whatever I did it seemed a little un-balanced ! Pleased someone else likes the rose...kinda growing on me

mineral is a good shot and I especially like the text, makes it look like a page from my 'pocket guide to minerals'

Cheers Summer....thought the text helped to pick up an essentially boring image

Cheers Fazer , couldn't go any higher on the f stop & with 3 extension tubes on I struggled to get anything in focus cos the setup was so sensitive

Good picture of a rock you have I do like the writing on it to explain what it is. This was a really difficult week

Cheers AJ..

Morning Lynne, the more I try and catch up on everyone's threads the further behind I get:bonk: Having a quick catch up before I finish work!

Contrast 1, I love this shot. Sometimes the simplest approach is the best:clap: I also think the contrast in your signature is a clever touch.

Contrast 2, I like this:thumbs: Although looking on my phone the background looks black! I could see this on a canvas in Ikea;)

Mineral, the text works really well and does help add more interest? Sorry but how big is this? I'm looking on my phone, difficult to get scale, plus I've been up all night and I don't have the brain capacity to work it out!
Don't hit me but I would like to see greater DOF! What lens did you use with the macro filters?

Thanks Marsha , much appreciated  The piece of Augite is approx 1/2 the size it appears in the photo...as for greater DOF......already at f32  Was using the Tamron 90mm macro with a set of 3 extension tubes-12mm 20mm & 36mm...not really used them before so wanted to see what they would do:)

Very good. Nice and clear with good light.

Thanks for stopping by Robert

& so to wk 32...which is the 1st week in a long while where I've had a light bulb moment almost immediately :) Bought props , set up in the lounge cos the sun was way too warm in the conservatory & proceeded to faff with exposures & flash...settled on slow rear for the on board flash , well worn black card for the BG & a piece of card to remove the unwanted reflection-gawd knows where it was coming from cos I even closed the curtains to remove stray light !
Must confess I had to tweak the exposure in ps...& best of all I get to eat the props...yum yum :D

There's only one type of chocolate...& it has to be Cadbury's.....

Dark by llj666, on Flickr

Happy with....overall lack of reflections given I have no idea on flash & no diffusers ,the finished shot & eating the props
Unhappy with....couldn't break the squares evenly as had been in the fridge ,the BG is in dire need of replacing so a fair bit of cloning out stray marks, couldn't get the exposure bang on in camera...but hey...I get to console myself with some scrummy chocolate :naughty:

You had me at chocolate.

Great colour in the wrapper and nice detail.

Just the BG has a few black specks on it and it that a tooth mark on the chocolate :D

Cheers and  for the early post.

I've only looked on my phone, so that makes it tiny:bonk: F32, like you say  I don't really know anything about extension tubes, would the DOF be better with just the macro lens?

Dark, dam I was thinking chocolate too! However, I have to disagree with this

Being a Lindt, Thorntons and Hotel Chocolat (well any chocolate really) lover too, there is definitely more than type:love:

I think the lighting works fine, but then I'm not good at it either! Nice composition and the chocolate colour looks good.

I'm off to sleep now dreaming of choccies;)

love your take on the theme (tho I hate dark chocolate lol) - on my monitor the colour looks very saturated but the choccy bits look fine, so I'm thinking it's my monitor :)

beautifully exposed the reds excellent and the chocolate well exposed too. agree with sturisimo i hate dark chocolate too

Another vote for not liking dark chocolate. Give my a bar of Diary Milk any day. Good image though with nice saturation of colours.

Hi Lynne, sorry I've not commented for a while :(

Straight: the cows are good, but it looks a tiny bit washed out to me? Maybe increa the clarity a little if you use Lightroom?

The road is great. How did you not get flattened?!

Letter I love. Clever take on the theme, and a nice photo too. It's one of those ones you keep looking at because it's so interesting. Nice sky too!

Contrast, it absolutely has to be the orange and lemon one. It's incredibly clever, and really well taken; can't fault it!

The rose is nice, but the orange one outshines it!

Mineral is a nice shot, but I have a thing about captions/text on photos; I just don't like them except on very rare occasions (you watch, next week I'll end up doing it myself now I've said that!). Nothing wrong with the shot, I just don't like the style for no particular reason :).

I'll comment on dark once I've done mine.

Good work Missus
Looks like a product shot for the chocolate, it has a quality feel about it for me.
The only small niggle is the black on the top right of the packaging blends into the background. A little separation between them would really make it pop.
Andy, that is definitely a bite mark on the chocolate

Mineral - good subject, not so keen on the text on the image. Well not so keen on it being close, I think you could have played with the space a bit more round the edges. On theme and eductional though!

Dark - yum yum yum yum.

Like Dark chocolate and this shot as well. Good saturated colours on the label and the chunks left over from the taste test. nuff said

Darn screen...spent ages trying to clone out the stray marks...must get new sheet of black card !...but not a tooth mark...a finger nail caused the damage...was like trying to break a brick it'd been in the fridge for some time

Cheers Marsha... DOF may have been better without the tubes but couldn't get the detail I wanted plus I've been dying to try them out :D

Lindt was my 2nd choice but too expensive & a little too bitter for me.....but Dark chocolate is Simply The Best

I like that Lynne, with the background sorted it would improve it even more. Lighting on the chocolate itself and the wrapper is very good, I like the uneven chocolate as well.

Thanks Michael....would probably help if I cleaned my screen...spent about 10 mins trying to clone out spots before I realsied they were on the creen rather than the image

Thumbs up from me. Good take on the theme.

Cheers Bob

Thanks Summer...did boost the saturation on the red as wanted it to pop a bit, slightly surprised it din't affect the choco color as well ??

beautifully exposed the reds excellent and the chocolate well exposed too. agree with sturisimo i hate dark chocolate too

Cheers mister , glad you like it....can't belive that some people don't like dark chocolate...

Another vote for not liking dark chocolate. Give my a bar of Diary Milk any day. Good image though with nice saturation of colours.

Cheers Mark , had fun taking the Road shot.... generally a quiet lane , chap pulled in the entrance way just behind me & came running up to see if I was ok...

Good work Missus

Thannks Iain...no non no...not a tooth but a finger nail caused the amage...honest :D Couldn't figure out how to stop the black on the wrapper blending with the BG....not enough knowledge of lighting I'm afraid :'(

Week 33...better late than never , work getting in the way again :bang:

2 Offerings for you both from the 1940's event I went to last weekend. Not entirely happy with the pp on #1....knew what I wanted but couldn't quite get there..on the plus side I've been learning about High Pass sharpening...

Both images reflect a bygone time...

#1

Time 1 by llj666, on Flickr

Wanted to get a clock in for obvious reasons , wanted a really aged feel to the image but may have over cooked it somewhat....playing in pse10 more than normal just trying stuff out

#2

Time by llj666, on Flickr

This one I really like....the only spoiler for me is the bright area on the door as there was an old tram parked opposite painted in cream which I think must have reflected the light on to the door ?

Thanks for looking & for all your comments , hoping this week to be able to keep up with threads as images are posted.....Manx time soon but hoping to use my friends internet to keep up with comments, doubt I'll be able to post images as no real editing software on the netbook

TTFN
