weekly Blondies 2012 52 wk52 BUSY - Finished !

Hi Lynne

Joy - both shots fit the theme for me, in the sense of the bird and in the sense of the joy thet they impart to us withy thei effortless mastery of their flight. #1 has excellent focus, dof, pov and lovely colours.

#2 - the colours are not as good and the shadow is detrimental but it is a really good composition with the bird flying into space with an eye on the lookout for food.

Small - nice shot, on theme, lovely colours and detail on the outer leaves of the opening bud.

Like small really nicely composed and the 2nd joy shot for me

wow - just managed to get through that thread.. lots of excellent shots! the rose bud for small, and the 2nd moody shot in b&w liked them - and given me a few ideas to think for my own shots aswell. thanks

Small is gorgeous! I've got a similar rose in the garden right now so I know how it feels. They're so beautiful when they bloom. Lovely framing and colour, and the lighting is fab too.

I like the short re-shoot too - I find that style very hard to pull off myself so I'm always impressed when someone else gets it right. Great job on the BG.

I like the birds too, more from a technical perspective than an artistic one though as I know it's a hard shot to get. I'm not really a bird person though so it might be putting me off. I think it's totally on theme though; joy is very subjective!

Joy – I don’t see the theme but I do see a good photo. Nice and sharp. I like #1 as a preference

Reshoot – I like the composition although feel the glass is a tad close to the bottom

Small – Lovely crisp shot and nice colours. I definitely like this one.

Hi Lynne.

Joy don't say joy to me as images, but they are great, and I do remember the joy of being there; haven't had that much fun in a long time (note to self; get out more!).

Reshoot is a lovely shot; can't really fault it.

Small is lovely. Again it doesn't screen small to me, but who cares!!!

Hi Lynne,

small is lovely - you have used good dof and focus is spot on as well. It looks like a perfect bud as well, most of mine seem to be suffering from rain damage! I hope you take a photo of it when it has openned up fully as well!!:)

ah small is a beautiful picture, really like it, it doesn't say small to me though. Maybe it's just me but I can only see the 'small' when the subject is accompanied by 'big' lol - a bit like the snail/boot. Doesn't detract from the pictures though

Hi Lynne
A wee bit of a catch up on my commenting here.

I do like your reshoot of short, the lighting is spot on here, very crisp and sharp on the bottle and glass, the jet black background really sets the subject well. It could easily be a product shot used in a glossy magazine.

Small, technically very good, well lit with the focus spot on, not easy when using such a shallow dof but you've nailed it. Same as has been mentioned, it doesn't necessarily say small to me but it still works. I particularly like the muted background colours, the rose bud sits nicely in front of that. Iain

Like the re-shoot of short ... spot on
Small has lovely colours and clarity but there is something about the composition that doesn't appeal to me eye ... the closeness to the left edge and the cutting off of the leaf stem nick my OCD :D

Hi Lynne, cracking BIF shots, number one wins it for me too. However I also think the shot Michael has linked is superb:clap:

Short reshoot, nice black BG and composition. I've not tried that drink!

Small, lovely detail, colour and DOF. All I'd say is there's nothing to show the scale of the rose bud, that doesn't distract from the image though.

Hi, Lynne....

Joy #1 for me...seems such a long time ago :( Nice and sharp, well composed and decent separation from the BG.

Small, doesn't scream small to me...but nice colours and well composed, just a tad off the top to loose the green, maybe?

Cheers.

Love the first joy shot!

Like small really nicely composed and the 2nd joy shot for me

Hi Lynne, just had another look at your bif's they look really good at full size. Looking at your others I really like this one too. Reshoot of short works very well, and I like the flower bud for small.

Many thanks for all your comments , is much appreciated , I will get round your threads over this weekekend

Great shot Lynne, its has lovely colours and the DOF is just right. Really like that green leaf.

Like the positioning of it too, nice placement.

Many thanks for all the commenst & crit , I am paying attention :D I will catch up with everyone's threads this weekend....or die trying :D

Cheers all , comments & crit taken on board & will be put to use...thats the plan anyway!
Amarula Cream......beats Baileys anyday

First time I recall you not posting...:rules: :rules:

Cheers.

oh , keep your nickers on :) I have taken a couple of shots but struggling big time with enthusiasm & energy , coming home from work & just collapsing in a heap . Work is just destroying everything I enjoy at the moment & I don't see it getting any better anytime soon :'( I'll post my efforts once I've caught up with all the threads I've missed

It's so rude when work ruins your motivation and fun! I've been in a similar situation for the last few weeks so I know how you're feeling.

Fingers crossed it gets easier for you soon.

Lovely day today & zero enthusiasm to do anything bar sleep !

Figured I ought to post my weak attempts for Straight & Letter or I'll quit :'(

Looking Straight at me....some very curious & friendly cows :

Straight 2 by llj666, on Flickr

The Straight mile....pity the line painters couldn't quite keep them straight ! & yes , I did take a couple laying down in the middle of the road but theres a slight hump which meant you couldn't see the very end of the road

Straight 3 by llj666, on Flickr

As for Letter....post box's already been done ,my hand writing is awful so thats out , so shoe horning this in to the theme.....my 1st real attempt at a Pano & quite pleased....think it's called Letter box style ?...I did say it was shoe horning...more a crowbar actually !

Letter 3 by llj666, on Flickr

I will catch up with everyone soon ,apologies for being slack ,please forgive me :'(

Great catch up Lynne
You can't quit, it says so in the rules :rules: that someone so supportive of the 52'ers and such a valued member must see it through until the very end ;)

Straight, great capture those cows have so much character about them. This really works, a fun image but still compositionally good, I like the colour tones too and you've caught their look perfectly.

I like the photograph of the road, the pov and low down perspective really give a sense of space and the road opening out ahead

Letter, yes a little shoehorned into theme but it is a letterbox crop. It too works well, again giving a sense of space, well done for your first pano. Iain

Hi Lynne, cracking shot of the cows! As Iain has said, nice composition and colour. The road shot is good, but I prefer number 1. Letter has worked fine for the theme as I instantly new it was a letter box crop you went for. Looks like a great picture, nicely exposed and some very nice clouds.

Just looked on your flickr, I really like this one for straight too

Straight #2 for me. This is one of them photographs that I really like but never done myself. I think B&W would also work. I like this one as well > from your Flicker

Letter....well, I was going to give you a :shake: for the shoehorn, but having viewed in Flickr on black BG, you redeemed yourself. Seamless and nice detail though out.

Cheers.

October will come around quicker than you think, the one (and only) advantage of being so maxed out at work is time seems to fly by! I've had barely any time to do photography for a little while and suddenly I'm three weeks behind already :bonk:

If all you have the energy to do is sleep, then put the camera away and sleep! It's better to not take any photos than to take some you're disappointed with.

NOPE, quitting's not an option:rules: take a break, rest, rest, rest, then come back rejuvenated.

Straight, I love the cows! They're such photographic creatures as a few photos of them have popped up recently! Nice composition and fits the theme:thumbs:

 not bad for someone with no motivation! I'm hoping this is a very quiet road and not some attempt at being squashed!

Letter, I don't think any crow bar is required as I was thinking letterbox style shot, alas the scenery down here isn't anywhere near as beautiful as what you have!

Now where are these weak shots you're going on about?

Stick with us Lynne, you're still on time and producing great photos:thumbs:

Straight 2 for me and a nice pano well done with the shoehorn, but then I could hardly complain.

Hi Lynne

Straight - both good shots for the theme and having looked at both for some time i think that I rather like #2. Good composition and POV. It really does fit the theme very well

Letter - strange that 'letter box crop' was one of my first thoughts but as i have not done mine yet, i wouldn't have the gall :D

Please don't give up - I hoping for another 'well done mister' sometime :D

Straight. I like this one. I wonder if a B&W conversion or even a boost of contrast to darken down the road would make the image more dramatic

Letter - Good thinking with the letter box crop. Nice image and composition as well.

Great catch up Lynne

Appreciate your support & kind comments Iain...finally managed to catch up on all the threads , starting to feel a bit more normal ( whatever that is )

Cheers Michael....I love those cows , they were so curious & they have lovely faces...OMG ...I need to get out more

Thanks matey....yup , that was my thought...like it gonna try it....why is it that normally quite country lanes suddenly turned into THE place to drive though as soon as I got the camera out

Many thanks Marsha....finally caught up on comments , had a few days off & feeling much better for it...though having seen the new theme I'm feeling iffy again

As for scenery down your neck of the woods....from what I recall ( & it was a long long time ago) Oxford is pretty darned amazing...some beautiful areas by the river , head out to Thame & Wheatly & Waterstock for oldy worldy villages , really do need to head down there again

Straight 2 for me and a nice pano well done with the shoehorn, but then I could hardly complain.

Cheers for popping AJ....much appreciated ...whats a little shoe-horning between friends :D

Many thanks Allan....whislt I'd like to take all the credit for the pano most of the work was done by Windows live photo gallery....took 5 shots , uploaded them , pressed the "create a panorama " button & this was the end result...wanna do more of them now
Why wouldn't you have the gall ? couldn't do any worse than I have , my 1st practice attempt was a diaster...tried doing the shots hand held....not a good idea but lesson learned & this time it worked properly :)

Straight. I like this one. I wonder if a B&W conversion or even a boost of contrast to darken down the road would make the image more dramatic

Letter - Good thinking with the letter box crop. Nice image and composition as well.

Cheers Peter...hmmm...may have a dabble with a B&W version , thanks for the idea

Yes there are some very pretty villages. I need to get my butt out of the car and get walking around some of them!

Let me know if you ever pop down:)

The Straight mile....I did take a couple laying down in the middle of the road but theres a slight hump which meant you couldn't see the very end of the road

Sounds like a dangerous occupation  nice image though and well on theme, well done for keeping going ... I know how you feel.

If it's anything like me it's sometimes a case of "this will have to do" as either opportunity or innovation fails - anyway it's a very nice landscape image and it squeezes into the theme nicely :)

Time is sure a flying ! After a week of no inspiration I decided to settle for something really simple :
Contrasting colors & tastes....

Contrast 1 by llj666, on Flickr

then saw this in the garen which quite appealed so....
tweaked the BG a little in pse but liked the contrast between the new bud & the open rose plus the white against very dark green..

Contrast 2 by llj666, on Flickr

Nowt special but at least I got something in...the same may not be truE for MINERAL :bang: TTFN:wave:

Hi...

Contrast #1 is a cracker. The colours are really vivid and I like the composition and the diptych works well. Overall lighting is good and well done for not having any shadows.

Contrast #2 has potential and quite a few Contrasts, but compared to #1 lacks something. The BG isn't to my liking and there seems to be a lack of detail in the rose (in the whites).

#1, though, would look good on your wall and the signature is a nice added touch

Cheers and are you going to the National Memorial Arboretum meet tomorrow or the bike thingymabob?

Cheers.

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - Love the composition and idea, but I would prefer the colours a little stronger / more vibrant. But then I always say that :)
Letter - Absolutely lovely. Not obviously on-theme, but not so off-theme that it bugs me.
Contrast - Love the fruit! Again my preference is for super-bright colours but they are already pretty bright. I like the flower as well, it reminds me strongly of one of my photos.
