weekly Blondies 2012 52 wk52 BUSY - Finished !

Vice - looks like a good night to me;)

Cheers Kirks...pants shot really but hey , I'm poorly....no alcohol for me :D

Vice... think you hit them all there!!! well done! :D

Like the strange processing too, makes it much more gritty looking! :D almost like the room is filled with the stench of cigarettes!

Cheers Clawz...was going for as many Vice's as I could manage...just missing some cannabis  Quite pleased with the pp as well...glad you saw what I was after

Hope you feel better!

Thanks for the congrats on the D90, will see about June. Got to see if we have the pennies and manage to find a doggy sitter.

I like the vice shot and considering you have been ill its a good crack at the theme

Thanks Alex....bring the pooch....hope you're having fun with the D90...still like using mine .

How many vices can you get in one shot!? I like it, though I think you should have had the Adult Channel on the TV!

Bit late catching up this week so I’d better make a start.
Works well getting the vices all in one shot, struggling with this week myself and looking at doing the same, I think you have covered most of them there, the tones work well and think you have the objects positioned well DOF and lighting are good too.
You explained about the TV but maybe the table could have been positioned symmetrical thou

Hi Lynne,

I hope you're feeling better now and I'm very sorry to hear you've been a bit under. :gag:

I think your 'Vice' image is bang on, it's got all the vices and nice processing too.

Nick

Hi Lynne

Magical - #1 for me is the one most on theme. Good warm colours and what a good capture for the rainbow. Also that small geren bush(?) bottom left really catches the eye< it is so bright, so, rather than being a distraction, it adds to the theme

The church window is very well taken and a super pic but not as well connecdted to the theme. The weir shot is very well seen and taken

Vice - not sure about this. It has merit but not up to your usual standard i feel. Although I like the processing/light.

Vice... apart from the strippers you have a great selection there for a good night - Great Idea

Cheers DK ..more desparation shot than good idea but hey ho..:)

DOH....missed the table being a bit squiff....but I'm poorly...thats my excuse & I'm sticking to it

Bang on theme, I know you say that tellys really like that but it would drive me bonkers :D

Thanks Donnie....the TV's been like that since I put it in...don't notice it whilst I'm watching it :D

Vice

Grreat shot Lynne, like it.

Roll on a easy week.

Cheers MM.......glad you like it  Think we used all the easy theme's last year...least that's what it feels like

Thanks SP.....2 out 3....I'll settle for that

An interesting image for vice Lynne, the processing adds to it I think.

Thanks Michael....not 100% keen on the image but twas all I could manage...

Week 14....finally a theme that bought an idea straight to mind....sadly I couldn't find what I had in mind so spent this afternoon scouting for possibles.....ended up with 4

Playing with PP again...think I'm starting to find my style....wether anyone else likes it is debatable.......bit pic heavy here as can't decide which versions to post .....

Ooh - 4 options, busy girl!
Well done all on theme and good pics

Hi Lynne, 4 images you;ve been busy Missus:D
They are all worthy images on the theme, posted, funnily enough in descending order for my vote. I like the contrasty feel of #1, great exposure, you've handled what looks like very strong light well.
Do I detect a very subtle HDR about these? They do all have a full range of tones in them. Good work  iain

Hi Lynne,

Just playing some catch up with your 52....
Magical.......the first one with the cute little rainbow, that's the one for me, really like it.

Vice, I couldn't get into this theme and look at you girl, you're posting when you're not well.... it's definately on theme and I quite like your assortment of vices take on the theme, especially like the inclusion of the tv remote on the table as it suggests TV itself is also a vice. Well done.

Entrance, good to see you're feeling better with 4 shots this week:)
It's no 2 for me, I just love derelict buildings, they have so much characture, like this one alot. Would love to see what this looks like in b&w.

Carol

Hi Lynne, for me it HAS to be number 1. Everything about it - the composition, the tones, the architecture and even the lighting - says 1970's to me, and so pulls it all together.

After that my preferences would be in the order you've posted them. The last one doesn't really say entrance to me at all, though I do like the colours.

Hi Lynne, the first Entrance one for me, and don't ask me why because i don't know, just know that i like it the best

Entrance
4 very nice shots Lynne.
Great minds think alike.

Cheers MM...off to see yours in a mo .......or maybe I'm just to darn predictable

Thanks Gramps :)

4 really good shots those Lynne, if I had to choose, there is something about number 2 that draws me to it.

Tis a bit of a blot on the landscape thats for sure......but for the 1st time ever I think I actually stood & thought about positioning...think all the talk about composition is finally begining to sink in !

Good work Lynne. Liking #1, really nice shot and #2 is full of emotions as well as entrance. Great work.

Cheers Alex....like your thinking about the emotion side of the shot....

Thanks Iain....strong midday light ...strange how it makes taking shots so much harder ! Think I'm with you on the order as well...the farm field was the 1st shot so thought I'd post anyway . Got nipped in another section about HDR......apparently true HDR combines 2 or more images...these were lightly tone mapped single images....still love the effects & details you can bring out

Thanks Carol...never thought of TV as being a vice but your right...& I watch far too much

Still working on the B&W version of #2...can't get it quite right...yet !

Cheers SD.....now you mention it , yeah...does look like a 1970's place ( a lot of Rotherham looks like that ! ) Last one was my 2nd thought & 1st shot , not really screaming Entrance but it is to a farmer with his mahooosive tractors:lol:

Lovely shots

Thanks Manda
Hi Lynne, the first Entrance one for me, and don't ask me why because i don't know, just know that i like it the best

Cheers Lizzy...I get that feeling a lot...really like a shot but can't quite pin down why

Hi Blondie, Im struggling to get 1 and you come in with 4!!

nice shots, not sure which one I prefer, think I like all of them:)

3rd try at posting...blooming tinternet....

#1 for me. Tad off the left. Like the low angle and industrial feel.

The light is an issue with all...I suspect if photographed at sunset they'd improve significantly.

Cheers.

Cheers Neil ....well 3 + a weak one but hey, least I finally had a bit of inspiration this week ...even if it was'nt terribly original

Hi trouble...saw you were having difficulties posting...doubles in the 52 theme thread

I read your thread on comments re lighting from Kelby & some other bod....midday light can be harsh so you get what you get.....sunset shots in Rotherham centre...noooo sireee....probably wouldn't make it out alive

Nicked a couple of quotes from said thread......
Landscape photographs should be taken a dawn and dusk, photographing at any other time will produce bad photographs'

I'm prefering .....

'Landscape photographs are often better taken a dawn and dusk, photographing at any other time may produce photographs with less impact'

& yes , my images may not fully fall in to the landscape category but I'm on about the light here :-)

I have no doubts that had I not been forced out of the house in the blazing midday sun & brightness (mad dogs & englishmen :D ) I may have got slightly different & possibly , some may say better /more pleasing results.... but I was .....so I didn't ....not getting huffy by the way....I'm quite happy ( not 100% but quite happy )with the results given the light I had to work with....:p

That's just about what I'd say to Scott Kelby given the chance. If I go to, for example, Whitby for the day, I'm damn well going to photograph all day....even under the midday sun.

BTW, I'm booking Friday after next and going to Whitby again :bonk:

Cheers.

I really like the tone chosen in these entrance images. Hard to choose a favourite.

Hi Lynne, sorry I've been busy lately and not visited here for a while.

I totally get your vice shot! Too ill to care so just get a shot in! Your Vice is my win, it made me chuckle!

I hope you're all better now?

Entrance - number one for me. I live the composition and the PP, it really works.

What is tone mapping?

Let's see what the new theme is?

I think that for me number 2 is best of the 4 for me, love the urban desolation of the shot, the near post of the gate needs a little more room I think though.

Number 1 I think could have been a real cracker if you could have managed to shoot from a slightly higher viewpoint so we could see the road sweep all the way up and round to the entrance of the building.

Number 3 is just too busy for me and number 4 doesn't shout entrance to me.

So for me, definitely number 2

Hi Lynne, you've had a busy week!!:)

I prefer #1 the carpark one as the arrows lead your eye into the picture and really shouts entrance!!

Thanks Sarah...my fave & glad you like it

I really like the tone chosen in these entrance images. Hard to choose a favourite.

Thanks Bilko...am having a ball messing about with pp & seeing how differing tones can alter an image

Hi Marsha...still suffering...got rid of one infection & now got another...enough tablets that I rattle as I walk :bang:

Tone mapping....I use Photomatix quite alot as I love the detail you can draw out of a suitable image....tone mapping is similar but with a single image....sort of a poor man's HDR ....least thats how I understand it

Hi ya...thanks for the feedback.....ya just can't please some people  To get the view point you mention I'd have to stand on top of a truck as it's quite a sharp corner....will go back & take another look though as it's only down the road from me

#2....large concrete post just out of shot ...any wider & it would have been in shot so cropped as wide as I could...lots of urban desoltaion round these part...most of it behind huge fences :bang:

#3....yup , busy alright but real...& I quite liked the 2 links to the theme....the main house gates & the little gate to the lane on the left

#4....only a farmer would see the entrance in this one

& so to Soft....

1st thought was " soft as a babys botty "....quick check round the house confirmed no babies had snuck in during the night.......contemplated asking if I could borrow the next door neighbours little 'un but they already think I'm nut's & a whizz to the local Hire Centre proved fruitless  Next up was animals....nope, lucked out again ....

Soooo.....here's the excuses.....feeling totally carp , temperature , sore throat , so very tired......

3rd thought was candle light....thats soft & romantic , so roused myself n got some props & spent an hour in the dark . Initially used the scene setting for Candle....it's there for a reason....ok results , then went to A priorty & started playing ........

#1.....2 links to Soft

Soft 1 by llj666, on Flickr

Really pleased with how this came out....bit of light painting on the book as the candle wer'nt giving off enough light , candles were orange hence the color

#2....again 2 links to soft

Soft 3 by llj666, on Flickr
Just messing really...think it's slightly squiff but any tweaks & I'd lose the end of the 1st flame reflection

#3...just soft candlelight

Soft 2 by llj666, on Flickr
Had to clone the lower righthandside as there was a slightl glow ....was shot on black card

Don't think I've done too badly with the flames , tried to grasp the concept of croping correctly....daresay Andy will some tell me I've got it wrong....agian :bonk:
So , whilst you lot pick me to pieces I'm off to continue feeling sorry for myself on the sofa

#3 for me Lynne, just the candles and flames.
#2 the reflected flames I find distracting as there is no order to them.
#1 just doesn't inspire me, nothing wrong with it, just not inspiring me.

Hope you feel better soon

Here you go...linky

Hope you recover soon.

OK, I like #1 best. One thing that was pointed out to me when I posted light painted flowers was that I needed to get even light. I like the composition but I'd like to see the bases of the top 3 candles. I like the starbursts from the flames. Looks like a well read (and racy) book...:D

The other 2, well I'm struck with the DOF which works really well for me...often people put the rear objects totally OOF. Detail in the flames is good and I actually like that I can't see the bases of the candle holders.

Good show, lady

Lynne, out of these its 3 for me as well, 1 is just a little uninspriring, and i agree with Gramps about the reflections in 2, because you can't get everyone, they're a bit disjointed and don't add anything to the photo at all. 3 is nicely lit and does say soft to me
