weekly Blondie606's 52 2013 Wk 52 Water-The End :-(

Nope, can't add anything to what's been said, it's pretty much spot on. Did you use a lightbox for this?

Hi Nick & thanks for commenting....no lightbox just stood him in front of white paper that was taped to a window....then tweaked the bg as the light was so strong you could see the paper texture :)

Lovely light on your little fella and his steppppppppppping stones there Lynne. Well done.

Cheers Brian

Hi Lynne
nice stepping stone pic though the models pose is quite amusing, nice white BG and beautifully lit subject

Thanks Alan...appreciate you popping in....didn't spot the suspect pose till I read your comment

Hi, Lynne, yeah that works for me. Cracking lighting and composition. Nice shadows on the pebbles and nice clean BG.

Crit, well I can I can understand watermarks, but have never used them myself. On this one I feel it does detract from the cleanness...and it would be very easy to clone out due to the plain BG.

Anyways, just my opinion and you've produced the goods here

Cheers.

Cheers Matey....the siggy is just a habit I've got into , do it everytime & it's 2nd nature , more intended for the bike shots though

Is the little fella a bit tipsy? :D

Great image, sorry can't add to what's already been said.

Thanks Mark...not sure if he was or I was at the time of shooting

Hi Lynne

Steps - you have surpassed yourself - that is soooo good. Comp is spot on and you have lit it brilliantly

Awww...cheers Alan

Step(s): Great shot, well lit and set up.

Thanks Lisa

Keep your knickers on....I'm getting there....had my head well n truly in the wrong place this past couple of weeks , going through contract talks at work &......have a new beau , which at my age is quite a novelty ;)

Right...2 for the price of one this week...

mono.....really didn't wanna do black n white for some reason so had a quick google to confirm my thoughts....mono color = 1 color or tones of 1 color .....so I give you......mono color :

Wk 31 Monocolor by llj666, on Flickr

but then I tried a conversion to mainly white with some grey hues as my concession to monotone.....

Wk 31 Mono by llj666, on Flickr

I took 3 other shots for the theme but wasn't happy with any of them.....

wooohoooo....Just noticed...this is my 5000th post.....boy , do I need to get out more :-)

& week 32 brings Connection........bit of out of the box thinking...was gonna use my little wooden model & plasma ball but out n about today I came across this & thought it had a link ( if tenuous ) to the theme......

It's a morse code machine & connects you to someone else......

Wk 32 Connection by llj666, on Flickr

I did try to get deeper DOF to include the control box in focus but it was set up in a tent & I didn't have my tripod with me so settled for this ( upping the iso isn't a good option on the D90 ) Still .I'm quite happy with it .

Now I've got the last 2 weeks posted I can concentrate this week on finishing my catch up on all your threads

Hi Lynne:wave:
Really like the mono colour and well done for trying something nobody else did and for thinking about what the subject matter actually is . I get the feeling that someone suggested mono and their only thought was B+W.
The focus and the composition are spot on it does lead your eye in

Connection right on theme and an interesting object, certainly not tenuous. works well in sepia.
Great couple of posts:clap:

mono colour for me too - pletny of layers and depth there - and only the one colour in sight there too.

connection works really well too - DOF is just right for me, focus on the headset and pressy bit () with more than enough detail from the control box in the rear. Very well processed, and I love the little drayed section of wire going to the headset.

Hello, Mono #1 for me...good lateral thinking and lovely bright colour. Nice detail as well.

Connection, well as a former Army signalman this really works for me. Good detail, where needed, loving the processing as well.

Wonder what a slight vignettte would look like?

New beau, eh. Is he a togger :D

Cheers.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking of not doing B&W, I have a shot I rather like that's pretty much all one colour, I'm still undecided!

As for your mono, I do like the colour version but the almost white one is just beautiful! I think on the yellow one the darker corner bottom right bothers me a teeny tiny bit.I would maybe crop that out of clone the colour somehow, but that's just me!

Connections, when I first saw this I thought it was some kind of torture implement! But a closer look corrected my warped brain! I think in this situation the increased ISO and grain would have suited it as it has quite an age old feel to it, being a morse machine an all. Saying that I think the DOF works fine as it is as you can just make out what it is behind

Connection: spot on theme. all those wires and "the pressy bit" connected to form a circuit that when completed (by pressing the "pressy bit") send a signal that connects you to another person...

The processing suits the subject perfectly, tbh I would have liked to see a bit more in focus. (I see you have explained that though).

Well done on being up to date!

You tell him Lynne
He's a cheeky rascal ;)

At your age?? You make it sound that you are positively ancient

Anyhoo, back to your photographs ;)
Mono colour version gets my vote Lynne, it has a lovely tranquil feel to it.
I do like the way it fills the frame, edge to edge flower, great choice

Connection, bang on theme and your sympathetic processing really suits the subject, nowt more to add, it just works Lynne, good work Missus

Hey Lynne :)

Mono - Color version for me too, looks lovely and soft/inviting :)

Sorry... but I really want to stick my finger in the middle and wiggle it :suspect:

Connection - Nice idea that too, liking your PP, Composition & DoF as you can still work out the background `

Many thanks Al.....I'm quite partial to flowers & yellow roses in particular...think I may get this one printed up . And I agree with your comments on the theme as well ...surprised more people didn't go for a single color color if you get my meaning ?

Thanks Matey , didn't want to overkill with pp but think you may be right about a small vignette

& no ...he's not a togger ( not yet anyway ) but he is a biker so 1 out of 2 is quite good

Hi Lynne,

The mono colour is simply sublime. Adorable.

Oh it's wonderful.

And connection.... great idea for the theme. Once again the colours a wonderful. It makes it really oldy worldy.

Many thanks , think a yellow rose may make another appearance quite soon ...

Awww..thanks Hun.....may revisit the mono mono & see if I can pull back some detail in the petals....

I'm liking how your mind works....instrument of torture

Cheers Brian.....I actually tried out the pressy bit....sent a message though doubt it made any sense.....Morse code wasn't on the curriculum at school :D

Love your steps man Lynn.

Hi Lynne

Mono - both good shots but #1 for me as it is such a beautiful colour. Shot has depth too and reminds me of those films where a person or a Dr Who phone box is hurtling towards the centre into the unknown.

Connections - spot on theme (well I would say that when you see my submission :)) Nice comp and I really like dof. Very impressive conversion to sepia because you have not just changed the tones, which in themselves are excellent , you have created atmosphere which is so much more admirable. I wish that my shot was as well handled.

I received your message and it made perfect sense, what time are you arriving on Monday? I'll have a the bucket of baby oil and the trampoline ready. ;)

You're way too kind Allan......I quite like doing sepia conversions & occasionally they actually work  Gonna have a little play with your shot which has plenty of detail in it & see what happens

Darn it.....sussed again.....not sure about the trampoline though

Right........due to be a slack so n so over the last week I've finally managed to get my beginning shot done......

Knew straight off what I wanted to shoot but had to wait for mother nature to produce the goods then give me a calm enough day to get the shot in the camera...that's my excuse anyway !

So....with a little crowbarring round the edges I give you.......

the beginning of death & life......

Wk 33 Begining by llj666, on Flickr

I'm getting quite partial to my yellow roses , find them very photogenic even in the throes of dying.

So I'm up to date again...just need to get Still done...got a plan....but it may all go horribly wrong if the weathers pants !

Cheers to you all for the comments & crit & for putting up with me lagging behind on commenting

Hi Lynne

Another strong image love the bud, nice and sharp everywhere and a lovely background cant fault it, fits the theme perfectly

Yes, that certainly ticks the box Lynne

I have said it before but you really have flower photography nailed.

I like the juxtaposition  of the bud against the bloom, the muted colours of the rose against the subtle background.

All round good work Missus :D

Outstanding.

I really do like roses and you have captured these beautifully .

many thanks Mark

Thanks Iain , really like flower photography....I'll remember your Juxtaposition for the next time that theme rears it's head

Lovely. Perfect. 'nuff said. ;)

Cheers Brian

So , whilst I'm on a bit of a roll I'd better post my Still image .....the weather worked for me today , knew again what I wanted to do so it all came together nicely :D

Still Waters....

Wk34 Still by llj666, on Flickr

Still struggling a bit with lead in lines but think this kinda works

Hope you've all had a great bank holiday

That certainly works Lynne, the leading lines are all there too, where's the struggle? ;)

Such a lovely range of colour tones in there and of conditions too, from the dry sandy bank to the lush trees in the background. There's a lot for the viewer to take in around the scene, it holds my attention looking around it, wonderful.

Bang up to date Missus, good work

I on the other hand am, yet again waiting for inspiration to strike

Hi, Lynne, Beginning, interesting take on theme. Well composed and I like how the rose bud appears to be about to burst into life, and also the muted colours of the rose. I wonder what a square crop would look like.

Still, well, you'll never guess what I've just finished processing...great minds and all that ;)

I might have been tempted to crop some of the sky out as the water is the main subject. Bit of bush peeking in from the right and I'm not overly sure about the FG interest...feels a tad close to the edges.

Lovely reflections that really emphasis the stillness.

Well, you can put your feet up and relax.

Cheers.

The water is still isn't it, I'd of been in there in a flash!

I agree with Andy about the rock and the log being slightly uncomfortably (for me anyway) close to the edge. A tad off the top might help too (according to my "scrolling up to push part of the image off the screen" method of assessment).

Great reflections and I love the colours, it looks like it was shot on film.

super rose shot there lynne - without the little bud poking his head round the side of the big fading flower this would be pretty lame, flower too central etc, but with it there, pulling the eye to the side, beautifully sharp and looking like the sides are just about to split and burst open, perfect, and the dark of the background sets it all off beautifully too.

Still is marvellous too - the jump out thing of this for me is the range of colours and curves in the trees, all coming through in the reflection too..

Agree with everything that's been said Lynne.

Absolutely beautiful range of colours and textures and that reflection is stunning
I hadn't actually noticed the rock and log on first viewing, but now I've seen them my eyes to keep going back to that corner :bat: Why did somebody have to mention that?

TBH I'm not sure that the foreground interest is actually needed here and I wonder whether a bit of clever cloning could lose the log???

Hi Lynne
That water really is still  nice reflection sort of agree about the log being cloned out I don't mind the rock being there, as always good work

Beginning. Oh yes, one for the frame.

As for Still, i really like the contrasting sandy colour against the blues and greens which makes the image for me

Thanks Alan , glad you like the rose

Cheers Iain.... still not 100% on the rock & stick but I'm happy you think I'm finally getting to grips with lead lines :D

I'm sure your inspiration will come rushing in.....look forward to seeing your take on the theme

Cheers Andy.....it may well end up cropped square when I get it printed & yup , I'm not sure on the foreground bits either.......there is an edited version coming soon

Right....took on board comments re the rock & stick & had another go at editing....tried getting to grips with layer masks but failed miserably so used the eraser method instead which kinda worked....maybe  & a slightly different crop...more pano type

Still...take 2...
