weekly Blondie606's 52 2013 Wk 52 Water-The End :-(

:nono: Way, way too overcritical of yourself.

This. Really, this.

So, Rock....wish I was still there :D

What struck me was the detail in the carving on the rock. Really great.

B&W was the only way with this and it has a real moody feel to it. Great tones and I can't see any blown highlights or black shadows.

Crit, well, composition, works really well, but just feels a tad close to the LH side, and I emphasise a tad to close.

To say you used a dark cloth to burn the highlights you've done a cracking job.

Cheers.

Thanks Andy...one day I'll get cropping.....never sure how close to go..maybe it's cos I like close up's ?

Wk 25 & Rock.....another seemingly easy theme but trying to think how to make it interesting had me a little stumped for a while . Eventually I settled on this shot
after a very long 20 min walk ( felt more like 1 hour !) we finally tracked down the Millenium Stones at Keswick....felt like a real Famous Five adventure

Had a play with the 10 stop & black cloth ( cheers Mark  ) & came away with this.....

Wk 25 Rock by llj666, on Flickr

Quite pleased with it overall but my own crit :

the pp seems to have made the left rock in particular almost look pasted in

My 1st attempt at dodge & burn isn't brilliant but I gotta start learning somewhere

Even after trying to correct the slope it looks a smidge on the squiff but when I put a grid over it , it is actually straight

What I learnt / like :

I'm liking milky water effect

I now know how to use the Black Card ( cloth in my case ) technique & was quite surprised it work so well

I need to sue a top watch in stead of counting in my head....guessing to be exact :D

So , over to you guys n gals to fill in the crit I've missed

TTFN

Beautiful shot. I love the way that the bw works here and the way that the rocks stand out against the background. I am particularly impressed by the smooth appearance of the shot. Did you use some noise reduction technique here? I often seem to get artefacts in my bw conversions in SFX Pro2.

Hi M

thanks for popping in......I don't recall running this image through Neat image (generally only need to use it for HDR stuff) ,may have clicked on reduce noise in elements though

yayyyyy....half way there folks

Week 26 brings us Pair....went out n about & all I could spot were 3's

Decided to faff in picasa with a garden flower & as the theme was PAIR....here's a pair of the same image but edited differently

Wk 26 Pair jpeg by llj666, on Flickr

Wk 26 pair B&W jpeg by llj666, on Flickr

The color one is sort of , almost nearly ,what I had in mind , the B&W one I just created by accident after pressing lots of buttons & trying different effects in picasa & I really like it :D.
It's the same shot but flipped as I could only find one flower in a useable state . I have my original idea still in mind which I think I'll do as a reshoot

ttfn

Its got to be the colour one for me Lynne

Lovely pastel colours, like the processing a lot, the image has a calming feel to it.

You've certainly got flower photography down to a fine art.

Good work Missus........as you would say

Hi, Lynne, amazing what faffing can result in...

I can't actually decide. #2 has an x-ray feel to it, but #1 have lovely pastel colours. The frame works for me, too.

I can't decide on the placement of the flowers. I feel there at little close to the outer border, and perhaps a little low in the frame.

Overall, good show and I look forward to your origional idea.

50% done

Cheers.

Hi Lynne:wave:
colour for me, another good image  nicely composed and the BG compliments the subject nicely, nice use of dead space too.
another good week:thumbs:

Hi Lovely

Loving both your Pair shots, could see them hanging on someones wall. Simple yet so eye catching, and the focus is sharp as always.

You have some fantastic shots on flickr, very impressed and very inspired.

Great feeling to be half way through :) yours and everyone else's words of encouragement have helped a great deal, so a big thank you from me.

Hello Shipmate,

I'm back ashore now and trying to catch on people threads and my photography. I really can't believe how much I have forgotten since I left these green and pleasant shores a few months ago. I did take my little X10 with me but had very few port visits due to operational commitments.

Your photography and style has really come on leaps and bounds while I have been away
you have developed a really pleasing and distinctive flair.

I really miss the '52' this year there are some very challenging themes. I just need to get out there and crack on again

Nick

another one in favour of the pretty pink pastel single flower, liking the flip, the mottled Bg, the drop shadow(s) and the mounted look of it, good attention to detail.

not liking the central watermark, but if that's all I've got to say negative, must be another good 'un.

Great stuff Lynne, the colour one for me as well. Well done, that's the first half all done!

Hi Lynne, sorry it's been a while (again). The rock one is just breathtaking. Lovely tones and composition - just a great shot.

I actually, cannot chose between the two pair shots. The graphic simplicity of the mono one is lovely but I adore the delicate colours of the colour one. Totally stumped on that one. Do the rules allow you to have two for one week?

In any case, gorgeous work.

Lynne, btw I was wowed by your millenium stones shot, thought I'd already commented (must have clicked off quick when the boss came in the office and not posted) Sorry.

Thanks Andy..placement of the flowers was deliberate after much fiddling ,I wanted lots of dead space & for them to be off centre....still trying to find the flower I need to do my original idea....

colour for me, another good image  nicely composed and the BG compliments the subject nicely, nice use of dead space too.
another good week:thumbs:

Thanks Alan....

Hi Lynne,

Thanks for the pano edit (definitely works better for me) and for the explanation of the black card thingy.

Another vote for the colour "pair" from me too.
I do like both but the lovely pink pastel colours really do work well - beautiful

many thanks for popping back in Sarah...glad you like the flowers

Hey Lynne :)

Pair - What a fine pair they are too, another vote for the colour version here, I feel the background on the B&W is a bit too much, but the nice colour/texture on the colour shot is excellent, a perfect match for the flowers
oooerrrrr...:-)
thanks Dean.....I wanted a dramatic effect & think I achieved it with the mono but appreciate it's not to everyones taste

cheers Brian...I suffer from senior moments as well

The crop of rock is great, really makes the most of what was a beautiful shot in the first place.

I'm torn over pair. The lighting, crispness and graphic style works well in mono, but it's a shame to have colours like that and not use them.

Week 27....reshoot & Shape.....so many reshoots to choose from

Been trying to find my favoured flower for a pair reshoot but failed so gave this a go.....& it's almost what I originally had in mind...almost but not 100%

Pair Reshoot

Wk 26 Pair reshoot a by llj666, on Flickr

2nd reshoot is below......I think I mentioned before that due to lack of time I would take a shot for any theme's I wanted to reshoot as & when I see them . This shot was taken on the Cumbria meet & I'm really pleased with it...& no ....it hasn't been flipped , the little chap was upside down ...feeding from below..

DSC_1553 by llj666, on Flickr

Shape had me thinking , got a few more idea's but this will have to suffice for now....

Wk 27 Shape jpeg by llj666, on Flickr

I just love the shape of this flower head

& one I fiddled with in picasa...:D

Wk 27 Shape 2jpeg by llj666, on Flickr

Wow Lynne you've been busy this weekend :D

Pair reshoot, your skill in flower photography is displayed once again, I like the processing here too, it has a pencil sketck feel about it, very effective.

Below reshoot, thats a beauty Lynne, just perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it. Composition, sharpness and colour its got everything going for it.

Shape, the colour version gets my vote
Very striking image and composition, it has a zoom burst feel about it which draws my eye into the frame.

Good work all round

Hey Lynne :)

Re-shoots:
Pair - now that is very nice, the pp used make them look drawn, would look great on a wall :)

Below - Wow I love that, certainly my fav of your re-shoots, excellent detail, caught nice and sharp and love the green background - super shot

Shape - Again the B&W of the first is excellent, super detail and liking the crop with your sig on again looks mountable

The Picasa fiddle is very effective, the tighter crop showing a bit more detail is great, but I prefer the B&W

Hi Lynne
What can I say all very good

Pair reshoot works really well in B+W beautifully placed in the frame really nice

Below nice and sharp and a great BG

Shape if i have to choose, they are both good but the B+W version for me

 :notworthy:

Pair....prefer it to your original attempts to be honest. I honestly don't know why but to me this is the stronger image

Below...great spot (I really need to get myself a macro lens!)

Shape....the first for me seems to have lost some detail, possibly the choice of colour on the white background hides it somewhat. I know that seems opposite of what others have said, maybe its just my ipad? The second shot on the other hand I think works much better and would be great as a desktop wallpaper I reckon

Great shots Lynne - all of them...

particularly liking the reshot pair, there's very nearly nothing there... but what is there works sooooo well. Wonderful

The bee hanging upside down off the flower is an absolute beauty. Super spot on focus on his eye, love the large chatchlight, in places looks like a really narrow DOF (only one antennae is sharp), but somehow this doesn;t harm the imnage, as all the important parts are sharp, lovely smooth OOF background, and the single blade of grass adds rather than detracts too. :notworthy:

B&W is probably my least fave of the 4 but is still pretty special, but the colour version rocks, so much detail and the impossible number of flower heads there is great.

Hi, Lynne, now Pair reshoot really works for me. Cracking composition that won't be to everyone's taste, but the positioning is great.

Mr Bee, well spotted with nice detail.

Shape #1 for me. Liking the hi key lighting and the metalic look. Think I'd prefer a square crop on this one

Good show

The pair reshoot is great, the mirror image works really well. I'd be interested to know how a colour version would look.

The bee is really nice. Lovely comp and colours, and the detail in the bee's head is great. I like the falloff of focus too. What lens did you use?

The Mono shape shot does it for me, The colours work nicely, but the clipping at the edges bothers me a bit.

Hi Lynne, just a quick comment while I'm catching up on everyone's shots (I'll be back!) - your Rock shot is a beaut! Lovely processing, the B&W works really well and the composition is spot on too!

Thanks Iain.....the Pair shot is much closer to what I originally intended though it is a fake flower so I had to go B&W as the colors just looked to fake !
Thanks for all your positive comments...much appreciated

hmmmm...not quite sure what you mean about color on the b&w ...do you mean I should have increased the blacks ? Be warned.....macro is incredibly additive ...

Shape - lovely image of the flower head. How did you get the background so white ?

Hi ya....I used a sheet of white plastic in full sun , overexposed a bit then pulled the blacks back in pp....quite surprised it actually worked

Great shots Lynne - all of them...

Cheers Nick...the color version was pants mainly because it's a fake flower but I still intend to try it with a real flower in soft pastel colors

The bee was taken with my tamron 90mm on a glorious sunny day

The color version of shape was meant to be a closer view with bits clipped top n bottom....knew it wouldn't be to everyone's taste though

Week 28 & Plenty.....I knew I'd end up crowbarring a bike into this theme as I was at Cadwell Saturday watching the endurance racing......came away with plenty of shots to choose from & more than a touch sunburnt

So....Plenty of lean angle...

Wk 28 Plenty of lean angle by llj666, on Flickr

Plenty of action....

Wk 28 Plenty of Action by llj666, on Flickr

& finally something different.....Plenty of new crops.....

Wk 28 Plenty by llj666, on Flickr

this one is killing my OCD as the farmer hadn't planted in dead straight equally spaced rows.....obviously no consideration for us 52'ers.... I was a bit limited as to where to take the shot from & this was the best I could come up with....

Hope everyone's enjoying the heatwave

OMG... were you not tempted to straighten some of them up when you were there

Really liking the bike shots Lynne, shame about the watermark but guess it's best for them type of shots

The second could take a good bit of cropping from the top for me - but you have caught the Action in the corners really well, with good colours and detail

"lean angle" is great, nice and sharp, mostly greens with the splash of red on the kerbs drawing the eyes to the rider.... that wheelie bin is a perfect subject for the clone tool though.. Can't recall if I've seen mention of you being a dab hand with this or not.. 10 mins spent gets rid of it pretty well. see >>here<< for my quick effort. ;) (slight blur added to far BG and near FG too.

I quite like the non straight rows, adds a bit of interest, converging lines, nice greens. Think you have to fight the OCD sometimes or they will just get stronger and start to limit what you do.
