weekly Blondie606 52 2015...Wk 17 Heat

First thing I saw was the blooming shadow. Fixable in PS, but annoying all the same.

I think it would say Elegant more without the box, but the line of the box do contrast against the sleek necklace.

Looks quite noisy, but not sure if that's the texture of the box.

Cheers.

Hi Lynne, the object is very elegant and I like the position of the box, the line is quite obvious on the box though which is a pity

Hi Lynne, I'm right behind you on the elegant thing - at one stage I was considering ringing friends and asking them to bring stuff to me fast!

It does fit the theme well, but I'm not sure about the mono appearance - and I know this is something you picked up on yourself, but it's tricky when you run out of time and at least you got something in :-)

I rather like it, I might not have thought the black line was that important until you mentioned it and now I can't keep my eyes away from it. As said, fill it in a bit with PS and it'll be fine.

.....

Thanks Dean....had to do some major cloning on those railings.....there was another set just below that kinda spoiled the clean lines

.....
Really !!! damn good effort then young lady

& so to week 5....
Well the idea is surely there, and as usual you crit your shot to an inch of their lives... no need I like this one, not 100% perfect no, but damn not far short for me, great thinking with the box on it's point, makes a real difference to the feel of the image

Your wish is my command....see the next post :D

At last I find something I don't like. The gap down the right hand side of the box it is shocking you have let us and yourself down. :p
It's an ok shot. I would have been happy with that. I'm still struggling this week at least your done and moving on.

Well done for getting something in on time and on theme. I know what you mean about your life not having much opportunity for elegance in it. Elegance is certainly not a daily feature of life here in Southern, rural Spain :tumbleweed: so I struggled too.... Lets hope for a better theme tomorrow :p

Companions works nicely, composition is nice with plenty of space for the couple to move into, and the fact they're together in obviously harsh weather gives it something different when set against the warmth and cosiness of many submissions for this theme. Processing really suits.

Elegant is on theme, and I like the setup/composition, but it's maybe a little too grey for me.

It certainly fits the theme Lynne :-)
My only niggle would be that I'd quite like to have seen the whole box (ie the outer corners too).
Out of interest, what colour are the stones in the "dangly bit"?

Oh I like companions, but bloody hell it looks cold over there! Great composition and catching them in step.

Elegant, well no need to crit because you've pretty much said it all to your self! I would say that the black gap of the box is probably fixable in photoshop, if you had the time or inclination to do it?
I am not sure on the mono conversion? I'm guessing the necklace is silver? But I think the tone of the jewellery is too closely matched to the box. However it strikes me as something that's probably difficult to get right in colour?
I like the angle though, certainly beats big standard product shots.

Scenic - great colours and detail, and I just love the way the 2 curves mirror one another
Companions - don't see a problem with your processing, think the contrast adds to the image
Elegant - likevery the tones and lighting, in particular that shadow. Think I would have preferred to see the whole box but think I am being a bit picky here! Whilst typing this I wonder if it would be simpler to show the necklace up close being worn?

Companions - There’s nothing like a brisk walk along Blackpool front to blow the cobwebs away and you’ve definitely captured that feeling. The horizon is ever so slightly off but I like the two subjects walking into the frame both in step with each other.

Elegant - It’s certainly that. A good product shot with a tasteful mono conversion. I think because the top half is a little brighter my eyes are drawn there rather than to the main jewel but even so I don;t think this would look out of place as a promo shot.

OMG what did you get me into;) Bu66er another theme out an haven't had time to shoot companions yet!
Didn't want to use archive shots so I'm going to try and get something done today ..... If I get time:(

I quite like this, I gonna ask, although I know there'll be a logical reason, why didn't you tuen the box round? I'm guessing makers logo? It would have cured your gap in the box. I bet you tried blue tac on that too? Like the lighting, and that shadow at the base, IMHO you need a bit of shadow for reality sake. I tried taking shots like this before and it's a lot harder than you think to get perfection, so I think you did a good job the chain at the top left is a little blown but I think that's nut picking and just a little fannying around with lighting would sort that out.
Nice job and I know what it's like to be rushed ;)..... Give a busy person a job and all that!

Cheers Steve

Cheers Steve...yup the other side of the box had the logo on which I didn't want...this is a reshoot for sure !

Nice job for a rush and bang on theme (y)
Nice image and lighting for me - I think your crit is a touch harsh. One thing for me is the chain looks a tad awkward as it goes around the back of the box. Maybe a lower view point would have improved that and got around the issue with the rhs of the box too.

& I agree totally...I couldn't get the chain to sit correctly due to rushing , will be doing a reshoot of this for sure & will try a lower POV as you suggest...cheers (y)

I hadn't noticed the box not fitting together completely until you mentioned it, the necklace itself drawing yout focus to it hides any imperfections (IMO).
I expect you could clone / colour replace the black line in PS if it bothers you though.
Very nice and bang on theme :)

Cheers.....I did try cloning the join out but my cloning skills leave a lot to be desired  :$

Bang on theme for me Lynne.

I understand what your saying about the box lid, but i feel that could be a quick fix in PP.
I Like the lighting, the shadow at the bottom adds depth to the image
My only crit would be the crop, i would have liked to see the whole box, the diamond shape of the box showing off the diamonds. I gather that where you have something supporting the box?

Thanks Darren....I knew the angle of the box wouldn't be to everyone's taste , just looked even more boring square on......there was cellotape & blu tac trying to keep the dam thing upright.....I WILL NO RUSH on the reshoot ;)

I'll be honest Lynne, although it fits the theme,
it just doesn't feel quite right to me, I'm not sure what it is TBH, but
it's not your finest hour, sorry ;)

No worries Chris...I quite agree with you ;)

Thanks Andy....the shadow was intentional :bat: I rushed way too much with this , just to get a shot in & now have many other idea's for the theme :banghead: The noise might have been the the box as it has a slight texture as does the backing paper.......

Hi Lynne, the object is very elegant and I like the position of the box, the line is quite obvious on the box though which is a pity

Cheers Allan.... the line bugs me as well :banghead:

Thanks Lorraine.....mono was not intentional but when the box ,necklace & bg are silver it was always gonna end up that way......lots of lessons learned this week...onwards & upwards :)

@blondie606 To clarify, I meant the shadow caused by the lid, not the shadow at the base (y)

Hi Lynne it's one of those yes and no ones ...I like the idea and the composition but I think it's lost a bit of definition somewhere along the lines. That's a lovely necklace by the way :)

Thanks Susie....& I agree with you.......:)

Bit grainy but nice shadow.

Cheers David....reshoot will hopefully address all the issues. (y)

Thanks Martin....me & cloning are not good enough friends to sort that line out :banghead:

Aww...you're way to kind Dean(y)

A simply but elegant piece of jewellery. I'm one of those not too sure about the box, settings etc.

Cheers Stan...all crit noted ready for a reshoot (y)

Elegant - love the idea behind this theme, going to happily echo everyone else's comments and crit.

Thanks Mandy :)

Cheers Simon....happy to oblige :D

Thanks Jill...not ever worn that necklace :(

Thanks Viv,......the stones are black, silver chain box & bg...it didn't turn out quite as I envisaged  :$

Chers Hun....the pp on companions actually makes it look colder than it was ;) As for pp'ing that blessed line out....not a prayer & I tried several times but always ended up looking worse than with the line so I caved in & left it :banghead:

Scenic - great colours and detail, and I just love the way the 2 curves mirror one another

Peter...you really are way to kind :ty: I was actually inspired by your jewellery shot but couldn't figure out how to place it so it looked right

Figure I really ought to post my Water theme shot.........

Walked out over the dunes at Donna Nook last weekend hoping for seals playing in rough sea's.....alas, after a mile n half walk I was greeted with an almost flat calm sea & the seals all on the dunes ! managed to get a couple of shots that I quite like when a couple of the pup's ventured out....& I think this is my fave........tried some different processing after reading how Marie pp'd her polar bear shot....

Watery 2 by Blondie606 Photography, on Flickr

On the way home from my folks ( the same day ) I drive over a bridge & have wanted to stop everytime due to the little boat that's been there & not moved for at least 5 years .The sky started to color up nicely so I took the chance........

A Watery grave in a Watery sunset...

Watery grave in a watery sunset by Blondie606 Photography, on Flickr

Still not happy with it but it's attracted more attention on flickr than the seals....

Seals, yep I can live with that! Very nice Lynne
(I'm trying to work out if that's a breaking wave behind the other two, or a sly gob shot though ;) )

TBH I'm not sure about all that pinkness though, in the watery grave.
(Strange that Eh? :D)
Its a really nice image nonetheless :)

Hi Lynne

seals are soo cute, will have to find the time to go to Norfolk one day - fits the theme just right and they're even looking at the camera, clever seals. The 2nd one is a lovely shot too tho the grass and the boat seem to have a slight pink tinge to them, I wonder what it would look like with the sats taken right down, to give it a 70s faded polaroid kinda look :p

Like both of those I think the first shot has probably sealed any holes in the sinking boat on the second:rolleyes:
No1 is a great shot was it luck they were there or is it somewhere where you get seals quite often? I like the way they are both looking at the camera mournfully! Nice bit of movement in the waves makes it look real ( not something from a sea, sanctuary).

No2 yep right up my street very nice subtle tones in the sky, nothing wrong with those lovely evening pink tones in the sky. Great silhouetted reflection of the tree on the horizon makes a great anchor. With lovely reflections running all through the river. Nice lead in the bank running down to the tree. And I nice focal point of the sad little boat. Works for me(y)

Watery has a very good DoF for the photo. It draws you to the seals and the surrounding choppy water is not too distracting to draw the attention away.

The watery grave has some beautiful tone in in the sky and its carried through into the water very nicely. I echo posiview's comments about getting closer to the boat though but it looks like an awkward place to get closer to!

loving both shots, better go and do a bit of reading in a bit on PP effects. The watery grave shot is very appealing although I am a little bit distracted by the pink effect which has slightly distracted me from the whole image. But love the pic none the less (y)

Hi Lynne

Love the seals shot. cute buggers in their watery home!
I like the second shot too, but as previously mentioned, the pinkness is a little much....though sometimes there's no legislating for sunset colours!

Hi Lynne,

seals - what's not to like? Nicely processed too.

I like the composition of the second shot, but I agree with what the others have said about the pinkness being a little...too pink?

Hi Lynne ... two very different shots and I like both very much. I don't know about PPing seals but it looks good and detailed. Actually I think the second image comes tops with me ... the desolation. (y)

Hi Lynne ....interesting processing on the seals ....I actually prefer the other one on Flickr where the heads are very close together.

I love the boat shot .....it has a really nice tranquil feel to it. Great aspect with the tree at the end and the reflection.
