I cant believe it..... at my first attempt at entering a competition round at my local camera club, I came top with full marks 20/20 (very generous judge in my opinion)

It was a projected image round with an "open" subject so all the genres were represented from portrait to landscape to abstract to wildlife. There were 40 entries so not too shabby for a beginner.... I was well chuffed.

Great feeling eh? :)

Thanks for all your kind comments. I'm still dazed and amazed. Yes it is good when you have some recognition of all the effort you put in to your hobby. Getting up at sparrow fart had its rewards after all :)

Its funny you should mention that, my inspiration was to pay tribute to the Ladybird Book of Butterflies that was around when I was at school in the sixties. I always remember pictures like these in those books.

I just have to keep going now, the next competition theme is "Tiny" so I'll have to get the creative juices flowing.....

Great image Nige
and the colours and clarity of the "blue" are excellent
Congrats !

Thanks Sara and guys.

I have to give TP and its members credit and a big thanks because if it wasnt for the help I have received on this forum over the past year, I would be nowhere near where I am now in terms of ability. Still loads to learn but getting there slowly.

Yup. Top notch and can totallysee why that shot kicked butt!
Awesome
and "generous judge"... I think not! Definately sensible!

Thanks for all your generous comments, they are very much appreciated.

I only hope I can continue to improve and put in a good showing at future competitions. I have found that competition certainly focuses the mind and makes me think about my photography more.

Thanks guys. I hope I havent peaked!!

you will...but even so you will be up with the top men

thats when it becomes competition

so far im at 2 out of 4 comps, its a euphoric feeling ist it :D one was a print and one was a projected so they count on two different tables.
