blending images

Can somebody tell me, or point me towards what i need to do.

I am just starting to have a play with some images in pse 9

I am cutting out an image and putting it onto a new background but the image looks like it’s been cut out and placed on a new background! (Which it has :bonk: ) but i want it to look natural or at least less oblivious

What do i need to do to blend the edges?

I had a quick look on youtube but could not find what i was looking for

This often isn't as easy as it might seem. When you paste something into a new background, the levels need to be the same and the light needs to be coming from the same direction or it will be instantly obvious to the viewer even if they don't appreciate why, because it just looks unnatural. This is particularly true in the case of a person where the whole outline being sharp is at odds with normal depth of field.

The other problem is that if the outline of the object you're pasting in looks unnaturally sharp it's a dead give away too. What you need to do is cut out the item you're pasting in very accurately and carefully, then once you've pasted it in, use a bit of judgement about how sharp that outline should be. if it's a portrait for example, you might want the edge of the face sharp, but anything slightly further back than that gradually going further out of focus as it would do naturally. You can soften overly sharp edges by running the softening tool along the edges for a more natural appearance.

Thanks for the advice, I did not think it was going to be very easy, and even the 'easy' tasks are taking me a long time time to do.

This will give me something to have a play around with and get some practice in.
