weekly blakester's 52 for 2012, Week 52 "Busy (Beach Party)" Post 1215 FINISHED

Wow... good job you've not got much time, or we'd have missed out on all these stunning stone feet shots .. :D Looks great against the sand background

Stunning.

Robert, wow I am really chuffed you think that

I did like your friendship shot but think this one would also have suited it well. Nice tones on this one.

Thanks Peter, isn't it always the way? These themes are interchangeable IYSWIM

Oh come on Iain, you're getting a bit boring now...

Love it as always!

 Thanks Marsha, I hope it doesn't sound as if I am fishing for compliments, I'm really not. We (I) am probably our own worst critic.

Cheers John, as I mentioned above, I am not fishing, I just think it might be seen as lazy me going to default a few times.

Sometimes life/work gets in the way so you do what you need to do to fulfil the theme

Like it, nice textures and autumnal colours.

Wonder what a slightly lower perspective from the rear would look like...looking over the feet, if you know what I mean,

Cheers.

you do this so well is it man and dog going on the toe count?

aw that's so sweet, love the processing too. you could use that religious 'footprints' poem thing and sell these for loadsa money - fridge magnets/keyrings/purse cards/Tshirts, phew!

Hi Iain

Natural - that is a pretty good default that you have got there. Good colour, almost sepia, and composition and i like the vignette - together with the colour, it gives it a feel of being a fairly old photo of some form of prehistoric footprints found embedded in sandstone

Agree with DK, not boring at all, in fact it's quite amazing how you manage to get so much mileage out of your pebble feet .... (apologies for the pun there).

Must admit I thought 'adult with two kids' at first but your description suggests 'man and dog'. But isn't there something about the way four-legged creatures walk? Back and front legs moving diagonally or something? Right front leg moves forward at same time as left back leg and so on. Am I making sense?

Cheers Andy, I have now comleted the course so should be able to get back on it properly.
I hear what you are saying about the lower perspective, I have tried this in the past but it loses the toes behind the feet. Good point though, I appreciate your critique suggestions Andy, you've been very consistent in your commenting on others 52's. Its credit to you for that

Yes Allan, man taking his best friend for a walk was what I was after.

Thanks Summer, I would love to be able to sell them to a mass market its just getting the right break to do so.

Thanks Alan, I like your interpretation of the photograph

Sorry Iain, no matter how hard you try these shots still have such a classy look/feel, I just don't get bored of them, great subtle tones throughout this one

Cheers Dean

Thanks Bob, after each one I say that that is the end of the series. I think it has run its course and won't be putting any more on here. I do have one to do but it is a more bespoke idea particular to a friend of mine. It is going to be a one off.
 You are quite correct about the way four legged creatures walk, I know exactly what you mean. Call it artistic licence ;)

Hi Iain

I could never get bored with you stone images....& this one is no exception...fab idea , man & his best friend....lovely muted tones , slight vingette....the only crit is there is no crit.... I agree with Marsha's comments re the Swedish company....I think it would be perfect for them , or go slightly more up market & target John Lewis

Have you thought about speaking to a certain Swedish furniture company ;)

Hi Marsha, I think thats quite a tough nut to crack, I believe they have separate art departments who buy in for them. I would need to find who these art depts are, quite a task.

I need to get my bum in gear and do something about selling the images. I have went as far as buying a couple of domain names for a website but nothing more :suspect: It is on my things to do list

I have a great big canvas from them hanging in my front room with five pebbles on it! Someone there likes pebbles!

I have Swedish relatives, I wonder if they know?!

I did look into it before Marsha and thought it a non starter in terms of getting an in with them but if anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears!

Would you not like a large canvas of pebble (feet) hanging on your wall? ;0)

I'd LOVE one! I've emailed my sister in law, you can donate one to me when you're famous :-D

You've got yourself a deal Marsha ;0)

Hi Iain
Sorry not been able to review lately, personal problems meant a back seat for the forum. Trying catch up on a few comments

Duo – Can’t fault this shot. Have also been watching the spiders feuding in our garden.
Flow – I can’t help but admire your repeating ideas lol but looking closer I can make out the tide and colour change of the sand/mud so I’ll take this as on theme for flow.
Friendship – I like the simple way this tells a tale and bang on theme. Colours and good DOF make this work.
Change – Just the mention of women’s prerogative evokes constant changes and frustration but here it works in the graphical sense. I prefer #1 although think the colour of the photo needs to be somewhere between the two
Natural – OK so I’ll ignore the pebbles and just say I like the idea of feet in the sand it’s so on theme. Don’t you have any other use for hardcore?

Following a photowalk around some of my favourite places for photography in London with Marsha (The Goblin), lovely to meet you btw ;)
I continued my walk further out to explore more. I came across this sculpture, which although fascinating was surrounded by the ugliest concrete building. I have tried to make it a little different by my pp and presentation.
The sculpture is titled "Seven Ages of Man". C&C welcome as always.

Hi, Iain, looking good. Plenty of detail and nice inclusion of the plaque. B&W works well. Well composed and by 'eck they are ugly :D

Just the borders for me, feel a bit thick.

Cheers.

Oh I get it, wait until I'm gone to 'find' that little delight did you? :suspect: :naughty: ;)

It's a cracker though (albeit a little freaky) and fits the theme perfectly! Nice detail in each shot and the B&W suits it well. My only niggles are in the full length shot bottom left is a light or something annoying me! I would possibly crop that out and make the statue more central in that shot. My OCD is bothered by the plaque bottom right being a little wonky, like I said today I struggle to shoot straight, my little ruler tool would have come out there:bonk: Otherwise it's a great find for the theme

It was lovely meeting you too. I enjoyed the little sightseeing tour. I'll definitely have to get into London a bit more now :)

Hi Iain

Age - good find and creative idea. Agree with Andy that the borders, partic thos dividing the pics look a bit thick. Also wondering whether the plaque could be 'stretched' to fit the frame and lose the bricks.

I don't know whether you could arrange them differently so that the statue is in the middle and the 'heads' facing into the shot rather than looking away from the centre. Bit difficult with the odd number (7)

hmm no I love it as it is

in fact, because I'm 'into' this kind of thing, I'd have kept the concrete too, made it more part of the shot. It looks like a 60's flat pack which I love - really does have to be B&W though

 Not at all Marsha, please see below, I've addressed the points made about the image.

Thanks Alan, I tried a few different compositions but the odd number limits options.

nice collection of pics have to agree with the borders too

Cheers Allan, I have changed the image, please see below.

I hear what you say about the borders Andy, all taken on board and addressed below. Cheers for your comments

Hello Iain,

Ammended version is the better of the two in my opinion. Great idea, love the shots.

Thanks Robert, thats what is so good about this 52 malarky, honest, open feedback from a different perspective of others.

Hi Iain, I didn't mind the thicker border in the first image, but seeing the edit I can now see what people were getting at! The edited version is loads better, it wouldn't look out of place in a magazine:clap:

Thanks Marsha, I too think the edited version is an improvement on the original. Others comments and critique were spot on :D

Definitely a good find for the theme. I like how you've got a combination of each of the heads as well as the full sculpture and the inscription.

Thanks Peter, yes it was a good find. Somewhere in the city I hadn't really ventured so was lucky to spot it. I found it quite a challenging subject, as it was surrounded by ugly grey concrete buildings and I had to think as to how it could be presented, hence the collage as opposed to a straightforward photograph.

ah now, that edit is much better than the original. Don't get me wrong, the detail is great and it suits the theme perfectly, but as the others said really... What a great find

Very interesting mate !!!!

The Plaque looks a tad on the pi55, but apart from that some excellent detail caught there, and very nicely presented

<EDIT> Excellent  would love to see that on the xmas meet (if there is one this year)

Hi Iain

what a great find...#2 for me...much more pleasing to my OCD with the plaque being square on....mono works wonderfully as does how you've laid them out....as per Andy....by 'eck , they're ugly chuffs

Thanks Lynne
I agree, I feel the edit works better and yes  they are ugly!

If there is a Xmas meet, I will certainly show you where it is, no worries.

Very interesting statue. They look a little weird don't they, though it certainly makes a great subject for close ups. B+w is a great choice and the 2nd version is spot on.

Thanks Michael, yes it is an interesting statue in quite an unusual position.

Week 43, spread. I immediately thought of wing spread and as someone has already done wildlife, I thought I'd try something a bit different. C&C welcome as always.
