weekly blakester's 52 for 2012, Week 52 "Busy (Beach Party)" Post 1215 FINISHED

Week 30, we are well over halfway now :D
Below is my take on the this weeks theme "Contrast"
I had an idea for this after a wee bit of pondering but needed the sun to achieve it. I am glad of this summer weather now as it helped me no end, some would say lucky, I say good timing ;)
C&C welcome as always.

What in the hell.....I felt like I was falling over :D

Yet again you show your great eye for a photograph

Hell, can't stop looking at it...has quite an Escher feel to it. Processing works well.

Tad off the bottom, maybe, to draw the eye to the upside down cyclist

Cheers and where are the travel sickness tablets (in a good way of course!).

 Cheers Andy
I never saw the Escher aspect of it until you mentioned it, I see what you mean though.
I like your idea about the crop and had considered a crop but thought it would look too central, the divide between the wheels and the shadow. Its not quite on thirds as it is but don't know whether or not to leave it

That is so good takes a while to figure it out but very interesting its not an angle you expect.

Had to stare at that for a while... excellent... really good play of light and shadow

Thanks John, glad it made you look ;)
This zebra crossing is tucked away between buildings and doesn't get the sun at this angle for very long, so I was lucky with my timing on this one.

This is a smashing shot. The touch of muted colour works well.

I remember taking a similar shot (not as good as this one) about 20 years ago when the Milk Race came through Blackpool. The shadows almost made them riders look like ET

As ever, you've pullled off a great photo Iain.

You clearly have a great style of which I greatly admire. Not only do you take a very good photo, your PP style is superb.

Thanks Peter, I had been wanting to do a shot like this for some time but hadn't found a suitable location until recently. This weeks theme was a perfect opportunity/reason to take it.

Thanks again for your very kind comments Robert

contrast - clever, clever, love pics that make you want to turn your head round lol, very nice shot :)

Another great shot from you Iain, great idea, well shot and it keeps you interested!! What more could you ask for!!

Thanks Sarah, your kind comments are very much appreciated. :)

Thank you too Summer, glad you see another side to the photograph :)

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - Lovely contrast, really nicely done.
Letter - Great idea, but I find the overall effect looks obviously photoshopped. I think it's the darkness around the hand and the lighting on the word "letters" that do it.
Contrast - Another great shot, I see why it's oriented this way but it's kinda giving me vertigo!

I appreciate your comments and critique :)

Super timing & def right place right time....great play of shadows...& agree with Summer , makes you turn your head round -love it

Its a funny old game this 52 and photography lark, some weeks its a serious lack of inspiration and then other weeks things just fall into place. This was certainly the latter this week.

I was lucky on a number of counts with contrast, the sunlight, shadows, fella on the bike crossing all fell into place. glad that you like it :)

Hi Iain

straight - like the new processing
letter - I thought that the first was spot on and not sure that the new one improves it any.

Contrast - super shot. Certainly odd as it scrolls up the monitor screen - not sure what will appear! Very well captured, the contrast in the figures and the road

I know that the crop has been discussed but i think that I would have taken off just the larger broken road markings at the bottom.

Thanks Alan, I appreciate you taking the time to look/comment. I have been a bit slack with comments on others lately and I will address that when work isn't so busy.

Hi Iain, yet another cracking shot:clap: This messed with my head too, I turned my phone upside down to look at it first, it made me 'see' it better when I went back to the right way up!

Thanks Marsha, I never realised or expected this one to have such an effect on those looking at it

Just seen this. Wonderful shot!

Thanks Bob, I've been lurking near the bottom of the page
I haven't got anything for mineral yet, I know what I am going to shoot but its at the other end of the country as we are away at the moment visiting family in Scotland.

I am still in the 52, its just stalled temporarily for me.

I do have an alternative idea for last weeks theme of "Mineral" but as mentioned above, I am away at the moment and my idea requires a near home location. I am posting this as a stop gap and may post the other idea when taken. C&C welcome as always.

Hi, Iain, right up my street these are  Just the shadows a bit harsh.

You must have heard of Andy Goldsworthy?? One of my favourite artists. Here's one of his sculptures that sprang to mind when I saw your mineral. Clicky linky.

Cheers.

About the shadows, I had set this up beside a large boulder to offer some shade. When I came to take the shot, by trying to diffuse the light it was too dark

Reference Andy Goldsmith, you have mentioned him before and I looked him up. This wasn't a copy of his work but must have been in my memory banks as it is very similar

I like the spiral effect on these Iain although I'm struggling to decide whether I prefer the colour or mono version. I'd probably go for the colour but only just. The smallest crit I've got is that the stripe on the centre isn't as clearly seen as the others. Yet again you've been able to hit the theme of the week and keep your theme on the stones. Well done

Thanks Peter, this wasn't my initial idea for the theme and I will shoot it when I am home. Shooting stones is a default option and I am trying to get away from them. The centre stone is a niggle of mine too. Thanks again!

Below is my submission for this weeks theme "Dark", a silhouette. Apologies, just a little cheat, I took this the day before the theme was announced ;)
C&C welcome as always.

That's an absolute cracker Iain. I really like it. It first I thought the left hand side of the shadow was oof but actually it shows the shadow on the contours of the leaf so must be very sharp indeed. A big congrats from me.

Thanks Peter, the contours of the leaf made focusing quite awkward.

I agree with above comment, a great shot and an interesting interpretation of the theme.

Cheers Bob, much appreciated.

Letter - great idea, nice twist on the letter box idea. Like the texture and colours.

Contrast - well taken and interesting idea.

Mineral - like both of these, but #1 just had it for me. Just knowing there is some nice tones in the stones means that number #2 is missing something!

Dark - I think you can cheat now and again and its a cracker!

Dark was only taken a day early so I didnt feel that bad about a wee cheat but did feel the need to confess up in case anyone looked at the EXIF

nothing wrong with a bit of cheating now and again love the shot of the frog colour version of mineral excellent too

Stone me Iain, great idea for mineral but has to be colour version.
Dark cheat if you must, I don't mind. Another great idea and well shot.

Cheers Allan, I will take that as forgiveness ;)

 you could have changed it and we would be none the wiser!!

Thing is Alex, I wouldn't know how to so had to 'fess up

Cheers John, i am tending towards the colour version myself.

Glad you don't mind, I am definitely forgiven
