weekly blakester's 52 for 2012, Week 52 "Busy (Beach Party)" Post 1215 FINISHED

Hey Iain, how can you say you're uninspired when you come up with shots like this?
These are excellent! Any of them on their own fit the theme very well, like them all but No 3 is my favourite, there's something about those shoes that i really like......maybe it's the implied message of authority they send out that appeals to me?

Also impressed by your SPs......when i tried those, i failed miserably!
All in all Iain, it's another good week for you....hope you feel more inspired by this weeks theme....maybe we all need a fun week....to post any shot we'd like to......we could call it whatever you want!lol

All the best

Carol

Well, Iain, cracker and screams authority.

Nice vertical tryptic and gritty B&W. Nice subtle border.

Just one minor crit and that's the cropped nose...guess it wasn't easy, though.

Overall,

excellent use of the theme by far the best i have seen:clap:

'Authority' - A lovely Triptych Iain. Cap, epaulettes and boots. Using 999 was also a clever twist. I think the monochrome works well. I think the british bobby is the epitome of authority, bang on on theme !

Thanks Carol, I do prefer #3 too, more so because you can't see my ugly mug
I am surprised that this seems to have been received quite well, I really wasn't feeling the love for this theme.
Onwards and upwards as they say, a fun week sounds just the ticket!

Cheers Andy, the cropped nose was a bit intentional, I wanted to 'cover' as much of my face as possible

Wow, thanks for your kind comments Allan, much appreciated if not a wee bit unexpected.

Cheers to you too Nick, your positive comments are very welcome.

I really like your authority. To be honest either #1 or #3 on their own would also have done it for me.
I agree with your comments about the last couple of themes being a bit uninspiring - but please don't give up!

Thanks Mike, I can see how some of the 3 might stand on their own, but I wanted to tell a story IYSWIM.

To all above, thank you so much for your words of encouragement, I don't think I will give up on this.........just yet!
I have honestly been feeling its becoming a drag but will persevere and see what happens.

Hi Iain, nice work again, very clever:)

Hope you don't give up, however I've just come back of holiday and to be honest I feel the same as you!! Find the themes hard, especially for a novice like me....think I will carry on till half way and see what happens..........again I have no idea what to do for leave!!!

The themes are hard at times, I suppose it wouldn't be a challenge if they were easy eh?
I often wonder when these themes are drawn out, that whoever was responsible for submitting the theme had a particular photograph in mind IYSWIM. I think they must have had their own photograph which says taking this weeks as an example 'leave' to them. However, it probably has a lot of other people thinking WTF (excuse my French) am I supposed to do with that. I hope that makes sense, it just about does to me

Excellent, nuff said I reckon ;)

Thanks Alby, short and sweet ;)

Perfect sense:D

Love flight Iain, an excellent image and love the processing.

Authority, fits perfectly, and an excellent image, and very well done SP.

Great use of B&W and spot on theme even down to the number. I also like the triptych approach on this one especially as you've moved away from the traditional horizontal style. Given the subjects of the three images this works really well.

Thank you too Peter for the positive comments :)

Hi Iain,

Forgot to mention your flight of stars shot. ....I like it alot Just goes to show that ordinary, everyday things can become very interesting if well presented. Never occurred to me to desaturate an image, it has emphasised the banister nicely and i found myself following it all the way to the bottom.

Another great week for you Iain.... very glad to hear you're sticking with the 52.... It just wouldn't be the same without you:)

Thanks Carol, I was having a play around in pp and liked the look of the desaturation.

Thanks also for your kind comments about me staying in.

Well I am a bit late with this.....again but better late than never. :D

I had an idea swimming around in my head and could not get beyond it. I thought of "leave only footprints, take only photographs" but as some may know if they are familiar with my stone feet series, I have already done this idea.

I couldn't come up with anything else so thought I'd put a new spin on the idea. I created a stencil of feet and thought i'd try that with sand instead of pebbles.

Today, I paid a visit to one of my favourite places, Aldeburgh. If anyone knows the beach there, it is mainly pebbles with a bit of shingle, no sand. So, what did I do? I took a bag of kiddies play sand to the beach :cuckoo:  so I could do my photographs.

Below is a selection of my favourites from the day. C&C welcome as always.

Hi Iain

Authority - That's a great set of images, the B&W suits it very well, very original mate !!!!

Leave - I'm beginning to notice a fetish here

A real nice idea again Iain, Nice textures in the first one, Love the background in the second, the colours in the third are fantastic - all in all a great set indeed

Cheers Dean, thanks for the kind comments on authority.

What can i say about feet and the beach, it is an obsession, I must admit.

really well taken pics you foot pervert:lol: all good though 2 or 3 for me not made my mind up

Authority; bang on! It's brilliant!

Leave; nice to see your trademark making an appearance! I like all of ten, though the last one is the weakest IMHO. If I had to pick a favourite it would be number 1, but only by a tiny margin.

Iain all those are brilliant, am loving your foot fetish :-)

love the latest ones.... fantastic...

Iain, got to be a massive     from me for Leave. The simplicity (yet hard, I'm sure) nature of these really appeals to me.

Great textures. I'd like them a bit warmer.

Over all,

Cheers.

I like to think its an obsession rather than a perversion

Thanks Mark, I had to get my trademark in there somehow :D
#1 is my favourite but thought I'd put the others up to garner opinion.

Perversion, now fetish :suspect:
Please people, its an obsession
Thanks Tezz, your comments are much appreciated.

Thanks Lynton, appreciate you stopping by.

Thanks Andy, I've got into a specific line of pp recently which desaturates a little. I can see where you are coming from in the warming of these, cheers for the suggestion.

Onto this weeks theme, and now for something completely different.

I liked the random nature of this graffiti, your C&C welcome as always.

Hi Iain, really like your foot prints, all excellent, but I do like number 3 a lot. Random, I like this, angle of view looks good as does the dof. I like the overall colours in there too.

Thanks Michael, for random, I was aware that essentially this is another artists work so wanted to take a different viewpoint on it. I also changed the colours a little bit in pp to put my mark on it.

More beach feet Iain :D... I prefer 1 and 3, I think they are the more interesting... hard to choose between them, probably go for 3 as my fave of these. The sand works well against the rock colour, and the stones add a little something.

Random, someone's been drawing random mazes :D... a good viewpont, and I like it.

I like Random a lot. I think you've captured the nature of it perfectly, with perfect composition, and I like the contrasting lighting under the arch. Did you use your own lights, or is it "as it comes"?

Cheers for your comments on random too

thanks Mark, the lighting was as it came, I tweaked it a wee bit in pp but no flash or other lighting was used.

Just noticed one tiny issue with random, which can't be that significant as I didn't see it before. The red security camera light (I assume that's what it is), halfway up the corner where the walls meet on the right is a little distracting. For a perfect shot, I'd clone that out I think.

'Authority' - great take on your familiar theme

'Random' - That's a very strong image. Interesting graffiti. It reminds me of fingerprint ride detail, a whorl on the extreme left hand side. I like the different lighting effect through the archway. Good choice of lens too for the subject and bang on theme.

Cheers for that Mark, I did notice it in the shot when I'd got home to upload my photographs. It doesn't add anything to the photograph but didn't really see it as a distraction so left it in . Being a lazy @r$e I pp'd as is :D

OOoooo Cool footprints, nice idea ;)

Thanks for stopping by Dade

Thanks Nick, I never saw it as a fingerprint but now you mention it, it does doesn't it? I am having that as adding to the random theme ;)

Nice idea Iain...like the lines up the wall, very random. I like the creature through the arch!!!

Thanks Neil, glad you like it.

Evening Iain

Random - Real nice image, I really like the colours and all the angles in the shot !!!

Where did you take this one??

Cheers Dean, this was taken in "Banksy's Tunnel" which is an authorised graffiti area/tunnel which is under Waterloo Station. This was actually a corridor off the tunnel. The doors were open, I had a look inside and thought thats random, I will have that. I somehow found myself in this corridor :suspect:

random what can i say superb

Cheers Allan
