weekly blakester's 52 for 2012, Week 52 "Busy (Beach Party)" Post 1215 FINISHED

Week 15 Soft, my interpretation of the theme is "soft drink".

I am quite pleased with how this turned out apart from the bright area (kitchen window) behind. It was a bit of a rush job in taking this. My daughter had to go to college and I had to go to work, so this is a compromise. C&C welcome as always.

I like that; very clever take on the theme :) Yes the blown window is a bit of a problem, but not too much as the can and hand draws your attention anyway.

How long did you spend cleaning the fridge beforehand, and is your camera defrosted yet?

You did well to keep the mouldy piece of cheese that's hidden behind the half empty tin of baked beans out of the shot! ;)

I just wish I could have a moment of inspiration for this weeks theme

It appears you had that moment! I think this is a great idea, I love the perspective from inside the fridge. And what a clean fridge it is! I don't find the bright window too distracting but I'm sure it can be tweaked in PP, my eye is definitely drawn to the can, then your daughter:thumbs:

Hi, Iain, nice one. I've seen this technique done before but never tried it myself.

It does say soft and it's quite well composed. Just your daughter's thumb going into her eye.

Glare from window and on inside of fridge are issues but don't detract too much for me.

I'd like to see the food in the RH trays removed so my eye is focused on the drink.

Cheers.

Hi Iain

yet another different take on Soft....works well....pretty much agree with Andy's comments though as my eye is drawn straight to the can I'm ok with the food in the trays

I like it just fine, nice and sharp on the can, also could be soft because it's diet coke

Time spent cleaning the fridge? I thought it was self cleaning like the cooker, microwave, worktops etc ;)

Me and the camera are both defrosted......the trouble i had getting onto the shelf inside the fridge, this is a handled shot, I couldnt get my tripod in beside me so had to rest it on that half empty tin of beans.

Yes Marsha, it came to me in a moment whilst in the car driving to work. I do drink a lot of diet coke and it struck me, soft drink ahhhh thats what I will do.
I am sure it could be tweaked in pp but thats probably beyond my skill level to get it looking in any way decent.
It was as I say a rush job, if I took my time I could have composed it better, and lowered the window blind . I prefer to get my shots as good as I can in camera rather than rely on my limited pp skills. Thanks for looking/commenting.

Thanks Andy for taking the time to comment, you are spot on with all of them. As mentioned above, it was a bit of a rush and I do think if I had taken more time I could tidy this up.

Super shot that Iain, nice and vivid and dof is spot on, well done!

Cheers Michael

Thanks Lynne, I did set up the fridge for the photograph so I dont mind the food in the door tray. I felt it added to the composition in that the fridge wasn't too clinical, it was literally a photograph of Lisa getting a can of coke from the fridge. Yes, I too agree with Andy's comments, they are all relevant and I appreciate it.

I like it just fine, nice and sharp on the can, also could be soft because it's diet coke

Thanks Summer much appreciated.

Hi I'm behind again so here I go
Week 14 I love the shot and can't find anything bad to say I think even the border goes well
Week 15 the point of view is tops what a great idea Well done .

Nice work - great DOF and nice take on theme ;)

Cheers Dade, much appreciated.

Thanks Chris glad you like them.

and you were lacking in inspiration, gord help me, good take on the theme well executed, you know about the blown window so won't go there, i would also have liked to see the stuff in the door moved as it does draw my eye away from the drink

Hi Iain, great idea, fits the the theme well. didn't find the window to distracting.....think I will have ago at doing this, must clean the fridge first!!!!

As usual, a smart idea & shot Iain.

Cheers Robert

That's a very clever shot, Iain and a great take on the theme. I cannot begin to imagine how you took it

Your shots are always very imaginative

Jenny

Thanks Jenny, I squeezed myself onto the shelf of the fridge ;)
It was very cold but am prepared to suffer for my art :)
(Camera in fridge, activated by a wireless trigger)
Your kind comments are much appreciated.

 Thanks Liz, I had a moment of clarity and found my inspiration. I hear what you are saying about the stuff in the door but wanted it to look like Lisa was just reaching in to grab a can, not staged in any way. Your C&C is much appreciated.

Thanks Neil, I would have liked to have gone wider than this inside the fridge but the shortest lens I have is 24mm. Give it a go and post the pics so we can see how you got on.

I like it, as you say the blown out part is distracting but it's relatively minor in my eyes as the clarity and focus on the can's is great.

Thanks Paul, it was a rush job, if I were to reshoot, I'd take more care in the background.

I really like your soft photo perfect focus and dof :-)

Cheers Richard, much appreciated.

Hi Iain

Entrance - Very well composed, almost perfect symmetry. Good foreground leading to the tower. Was not sure about processng at first and have come back to it a few times but, on balance, I would not criticise.

Thanks Alan, I can see the processing is a bit marmite.

Very clever Iain, an interesting viewpoint and it works really well... I'd not spotted the window till it was pointed out

Great shot - I love it. I don't mind the window or food trays at all! Cheers Mandy

Thanks Mandy, much appreciated.

Cheers John
The window doesn't overly bother me as the author, I felt I needed to draw peoples attention to it as I noticed it myself. I self critique my images and it is probably something I would point out as a minor niggle.

Another great shot Iain, the window didn't really bother me until it was pointed out but I also wouldn't know where to start at correcting it. The other items in the fridge work for me as like you said the fridge would look too sterile without them!:)

Thanks Sarah, i think the 'problem' with the window would be better solved in camera rather than pp. if I were to reshoot this, I would compose differently or just lower the blind

I like this one a lot. Three things though - Blown window, finger over the eye and I'd be tempted to crop the can that just enters on the left hand side. I like the overall brightness of the shot and the DoF for me is spot on.

Thanks Peter, I take on board your 3 points, they are all relevant and as I mentioned above, will address the changes if I do a reshoot if it is ever drawn as one of the themes.

Hi Iain,

Soft, another great shot from you...ok there are a couple of minor points that could be improved on but for me they don't detract at all. Love the perspective from inside the fridge, great dof ...all in all an excellent shot:thumbs:

Thanks Carol, glad you like the image, the idea came in a moment of inspiration which for last weeks theme of pride has escaped me. I have to admit I have came to a grinding halt with the 52. Hopefully it is temporary and normal service will resume.

Oh no Iain, I do hope inspiration will be along short-ly:D
Maybe a week off will work wonders! I really hope you're back in the game soon.

All the best

Carol

Cheers Carol, I have an inkling of an idea but I am finding it difficult to execute and be able to add interest. I will see how it goes and how its received when posted.

Clever take on the theme and well composed.

There are issues but its a true to life shot with the busy fridge and whatnot.

How did you fit in the fridge though?!?

Thanks Alex

It was a tight squeeze me getting onto the shelf, not to mention cold (strange that for a fridge) ;)

A little late with last weeks theme of "PRIDE" but better late than never ;)

I am a long serving member of one of the emergency services and as such have been serving through two of the Queen's Jubilees, Golden 2002, Diamond 2012. I have been awarded a medal on both occasions.

"Proud to Serve"

C&C welcome as always.

I have these medals too Iain, but in the armed forces they're considered as chocolate medals IE not real ones like you get serving in a war zone! However, for someone like me that never has done (or now never will do) an active tour, these medals are all we will ever earn and so are the only ones we can be proud of!

I did consider shooting mine but it wouldn't have been as good as this! Lovely composition and I like the reflections:thumbs:

Cheers Marsha, chocolate medals  I can see why!
Never having served in the Armed Forces, this is the closest i will come to a medal :D
I struggled to find something to fit this theme and this was my best idea.

I am on a bit of a roll today, I have a very busy week at work coming up and wanted to get my photograph for this weeks theme in this weekend rather than lastminutedot com next Saturday.

Below is my take on "Short"...

C&C welcome as always.
