weekly blakester's 52 for 2012, Week 52 "Busy (Beach Party)" Post 1215 FINISHED

Entrance
Nice shot Iain, I like the fact you have taken the time to get the pole on the building central. I quite like the colour, wonder how this would look with a touch of the dreaded HDR.

Cheers Darren, the flag pole was a great aid to finding the central position of the building. That was my aim to get as symmetrical a shot as possible. This has had a little HDR touch to it already ;)

Great processing on this one Michael, it looks a great place to visit! I also like the low angle that you chose!!:):)

Thanks Sarah, I found out when I was taking this photograph that this Martello tower is available to rent for overnight stays. I found this when I spoke to the current holidaymakers renting it for a couple of days when they returned from a day out to find me lying on the pathway which leads to the entrance . Iain;)

Oops who's Michael!! You must have given them a shock when they returned and a talking point when they return from their hols!!

Well taken Iain!!:):)

Wonderful shot, I love it. A good example of where HDR DOES work I recon! Can't fault it (and I've tried!!!!).

No worries Sarah :D
I did give them a shock, there are quite high walls at either side of the gateway, I was lying between them and couldn't be seen as they approached. It wasn't until they stepped into the gateway that they saw me

Cheers Mark, I must admit I do like HDR, even when its been slightly overcooked :suspect:.
But in this instance, I used it to bring out the detail in the stonework.

Like this Iain you have done a great job of processing it, as said love the low angle.

I'm not sure about the yellowish caste but I do like the image, spot on theme and great lead-in lines ... I would like to compare the original.

Glad you like the image Gramps, fair enough about the yellowish caste. On the subject of seeing the original, I would have to upload it to flickr to link to it here. I don't really want it in my photostream so will decline on posting it.

Hi Iain

love the symetry & the low POV....the colors are growing on me...sort of looks old fashioned which suits it I think.....HDR/tone mapping is a great tool when used subtly as you've done...

Thanks Lynne, the vintage look was what i was after in processing. I do like HDR but I know most don't, I like to use it subtly to bring out features. Cheers for looking and commenting. Iain

Hi Iain,

It is good to see you doing another 52 after the one in 2010. You have a lovely set of images this year.

Firstly I want to mention how much I like your pebble images. They are a very clever idea and well executed. The other standouts in the thread are the Lloyds building and the wireman images, which I remember from 2010.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for stopping by Jenny, I am glad you like the pebble images, I am particularly fond of them myself. I know they are not particularly diffcult to take but for me it was as much about the searching for the pebbles and setting them up. I enjoyed the creative aspect to them.

love it

Hi Iain,

Love the composition on this one, to be honest I'm not so sure about the colouring but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me.

Thanks Carol, I wanted to give it a vintage look because of the age and style of the building. I know it won't be to everyones taste, but i thought I'd try something a little different in my processing. Your comments are much appreciated :)

Hi Iain,

I agree, it's good to try different styles...keeps the challenge intersting :D Think you've definately accomplished what you set out to do.

Yes, you are right, its good to try different styles. I think some of the themes so far have certainly kept things interesting, I wonder what tomorrow will bring from Sarah's bag of themes

great entrance shot, love the colour and the low shooting position really emphasises the whole picture.

Thanks Paul, the low shooting position comes courtesy of lying on the deck shooting along the walkway. The things we do for our art

Really like that Iain, the low viewpoint really works well, and I like the processing on it.

Hi Iain, i seem to have missed Vice as well, what a cracking idea, and really well pulled off.

Entrance, its belting really can't think of anything else to say i like the low POV and the way the building seems to tower over

No worries Liz, thanks for looking in and commenting, much appreciated.

I am struggling a little on this weeks theme, I am busy at work this week too which doesn't help. Wish me luck on a flash of inspiration please :D

Iain,

Entrance - I love the POV and I think it's a great photo. For me, not sure about the colours, but everyone else seems to like it so it's probably just me. ;)

Thanks Nathalie

Nope, i wouldn't say its you about the colours, I can see why some may not be keen on them. Everyones opinion is relevant, thanks for looking and commenting its much appreciated.

Another stunning shot. I can see why you like that location for togging. Great take, angle is good and the leading lines are excellent.

Thanks Alex, I do love going to Aldeburgh but here's a funny thing. I was brought up in a town, I now live in a small rural village, I work in the city but am strangely drawn to the coast and seaside  I don't know where its came from.

'Entrance' - I really like your view point and composition. nice lead-in lines and processing. I think this would look good in mono to if you get the chance Iain. I love this type of image. nice work

Nick

Wow, yet another cracking shot! I love the editing and the low POV:clap:

Cheers Marsha
Your kind comments are much appreciated.
I just wish I could have a moment of inspiration for this weeks theme

Thanks Nick, I did a quick mono conversion when doing the HDR with this one but never did too much work on it. I do agree with the mono idea though, as I think this sort of subject does suit with the range of tones and contrast. I will certainly visit it. Do you think I could crowbar the mono into this weeks theme? No? Didn't think so  back to the drawing board for ideas.
