Iain, A bit of a catchup...

Excellent art work in the wire art... all good, but my personal fave is the second one of the second set, pushing into the fan, very clever.

Mobile, great idea and works well for the theme. I prefer the second image.

Surfaces, I think your second post works best for this. Great idea, and the curve through the shot works so well
 
Really well composed - I love the curves leading out to sea and their interesting texture and pattern. I prefer Darren's mono version and your second one to the original even though I can see why you were attracted to the colours.

Thanks Tracer, I like the colours in the original but can see the merits of the other versions too.
 
Week 35, "light". Light isn't that what photography is all about?:thinking: What to do this week.
I had various ideas but as this is a challenge, I decided to try something I have never done before, painting with light. Below is my effort at what was an enjoyable exercise.
I have titled this "Light as a Feather"

I like that good work, playing with light is great fun, tried it a few times with all sorts of outcomes .

Thanks David, this was my first attempt at this, I will definately be having another go, I can see it being quite addictive with different coloured lights. I am sure the ideas for being creative with this are endless. Iain
 
Very nice - my first reaction was the silver fern of the all blacks............. (can we have a springbok next please? )

Given photography literally translates as "writing with light" - then pretty good take on teh weeks theme!

Surfaces - a great shot Iain. The sweeping curve really brings the eye into the photo. Your edit works.

Light - Great idea. Must have taken a fair few tries to get it right.
 
That's very clever Iain. I didn't even need your text to work it out either ;) The light trails are very clean and sharp. Nice job :thumbs:

Thanks Paul, the sweeping curve was very easy on the eye, I sat a while at the coast just watching the waves break over it. A nice place to 'sit a while'.

It did take a fair few tries to line up the 'quill' of the feather and the body. This was as near as I could get it. :D

Thanks Darren, I am glad you 'got it'. It is quite addictive and will definately be having another go at light painting with different colours.

This is something I've been meaning to try but just haven't got around to yet - and if my first attempt comes out this well I'll be really pleased!

One of the best ones that I've seen and the "painting" is instantly recognisable, something that isn't always there with these type of images.
I like this a lot.

Thanks John, it took a fair few attempts with me finally picking this one. I am pleased with this as my first go at light painting.

Thanks Sarah, I would certainly recommend having a go at this. Given enough different lights, I think it certainly lends itself to being as creative as you like. I am glad that people get it and it doesn't need much explanation.
 
I've just gone back and seen your final version of Surfaces (Post 117) and love it - the best of all worlds! I hope you're getting that one printed. :)

This looks so professional, Iain, it's hard to believe it's your first attempt. The composition is excellent and the image is strong and stylish. This is something I really must try, and if I get results half this good I'll be well pleased. I absolutely love it. :thumbs:

Wow Jean, I am really flattered by your positive comments.
I have been into my photography for around two years and have never printed any images. However, just this week, I have joined a photography club and their competitions require any image(s) entered to be prints, so I will definitely be printing some photographs in the near future.
Light painting is fun and creative, I would urge you to give it a go and show the fruits of your labour on here of course.

Well! Another week over and definitely one I am glad to see the back of :lol:. I found this a difficult week inspiration/idea wise. I took my camera for a day out to the seaside Saturday 11th, to see what I could see.
I found these lighthouses, one on the beach and one on a groyne. These date back to 1852 and have been treated to a restoration project 25 or so years ago. They project upwards and I have attempted in PP to give them a vintage feel, something of a project for me as I am far from accomplished in the use of photoshop. So quite a few reasons for this being project and not a crowbar in sight :suspect:. C&C welcome as always.

What strange lighthouses. You've made a nice job of the PP and made a good job of keeping detail in the highlights and shadows. A good sky too and the composition keeps the eye moving back and forth between the two towers. I'd be very happy to have taken this. Speaking of which, where on the coast was this? :)
 
I like this shot Iain, as Darren says the composition is good and works well to move the eye around the shot. Its well exposed and indeed is an interesting subject. Nothing to critique but its a pity about the notice board on the near lighthouse.

Thanks Darren, I believe the way the lighthouses were used was an incoming ship would turn into port when the lighthouses lined up. These lighthouses are at Dovercourt near Harwich.

Thanks Chris, I know theres not really much to say about the image, I was glad to get something that was not too much of a crowbar. Yes its a shame about the sign but its there to give information about the restoration project which assists me being on theme ;) so I can't realy complain.

A very interesting subject too - never seen lighthouses like that before!

PP has worked really well, so definitely a successful project from that perspective. Lovely colours and a really good feeling of depth to it.

My only criticism is the crop at the bottom. That bit of concrete creeping in at the left corner is a touch distracting. I think I'd consider cropping just above it :thinking:

Thanks Sue, I must admit it took quite a few photographs to get something I was happy with. I must have spent about 3 hours around that area, waiting for different light.

Love the painting with light abstract - very effective!

I think the light houses shot is a good one in may ways - especially the path your eye takes around the shot. To me the foreground lighthouse looks fractionally wonky so I'd be tempted to have a crop and rotate.

Well, another week over and another where inspiration was notable by its absence :). I really did try to come up with something different but my ideas just weren't working. Why does trying to photograph cling film become dodgy:lol:. Below is my take on this weeks theme, negatives from when my eldest daughter (19 now) was about 11/12 months. C&C welcome as always.

 
I like the colours in your Film picture. Makes me curious to see what the orginal picture looked like !

I like the colouring of the negatives but I'm not keen on the blue tone in the background. Perhaps needed a little more space and only one strip standing up for detail with a couple more laid down in a rough pile. I don't know :D

Nothing dodgy about cling film though :)

Thanks JL, there's not a lot of processing on this, I just tweaked the levels a little.

Cheers Darren, the blue tone in the background is down to white balance I think. I was using flash and another light above the negatives and this threw the wb a bit. I tried B&W but I do like the colour in the negatives so went with that. We'll agree to disagree on dodgy cling film :lol:

Thanks Jenny, as I mentioned to Darren, the colours were a bit of a compromise really.
 
I'm going to sit on the fence with the colours . . . I didn't like the b/g at first, but it's starting to grow on me.

Great idea and something that's fascinating to look at.
I think there's potentially more to be had from the concept though. I wonder if you could have angled a light through the negative in such a way to project an image of it onto the white foreground?
