weekly blakesters 2014 52 - Retired Gracefully

The course is work related, more to increase my skill base/learn new skills, it's enjoyable also.
Luckily for me, work doesn't pile up as such, just has to be rescheduled.
I've brought my camera with me, not sure if I will get to use it but for once I will have the choice.
Ahhhh not so bad at all then... Back to normal in the morning then

Time - good, off-beat subject, with nice lighting and appropriately gritty p/p.

Swirl - an excellent shot. Well done!

Hi Iain
Swirl - hard to beat a spiral staircase as a subject - fascinating structures. Well caught in the frame and that little element of blue does add a little extra to the shot. Well handled exposure in difficult conditions (y)

Thanks Alan (y)
Yes it is a fascinating subject, the workmanship which went into creating the staircase is very impressive.

Week 12 - Linked

Taken at the Barbican in London, just along from where I work.
These metal supports link the roof structure to the main concrete supports. I had the final look of the image in mind when I took this, that is a darker more gritty feel to the image.

C&C welcome as always

That works for me. The composition is bang on. If the were upright it wounot wk at all, the lean adds real drama.

The processing has been handled well and the lioghting on the LH side of the rodes is lovley.

Nope, had another good look and no crit.

Cheers.

Certainly shows off the steel. Good picture; got a bit of a crick in the neck trying to see what it was though. :)

hmm. plain, but interesting at the same time. Well seen.

The bloke with the big spanner did you a favour by ensuring he's lined up all the giant nuts. :D

Take it they're goiung up at a 40* angle, and the slabs to the right are the floor (level)??

The lean was there, it's pretty much as you see it.
Cheers

that is all I can say!

Thanks Brian (y)

Linked... good one Iain, sharp well lit, good composition nothing else to say :clap:

Thanks Judi (y)

Yep, got to agree with the others.

Great detail and well lit.

Cheers Mark (y)

Thanks Martin(y)
Yes it does take a bit of working out :D

Yep... a no from me too, nicely lined up on the left, good angle and real nice lighting (y)

Did you give them a polish too mate ;)

Cheers Dean (y)
They are under cover so were quite clean :D

Yes pretty much a record shot, had to polish the image a little in pp.
Yes that's correct, they are rising at an angle towards the roof.

Super shot. Using the diagonal definitely works although maybe just a bit too leaning for me. What makes this image for me is the superb mono conversion. You can almost reach out and touch those pipes and it absolutely screams metallic. Nice one Iain.

I see what you mean about it leaning a little too much but I felt it was required to get everything into the frame.

Love it. That is all. :)

Cheers Simon (y)

Great shot. Dynamic composition on the slant, pin sharp and lovely contrasty b/w conversion.

Thanks Merc(y)

Linked - very nice composition, great take for the theme nicely done.

Thanks Mandy (y)

Hi Iain
Linked - lovely clean polished feel to the shot. Well composed and beautiful PP. Hard to fault, much like those recent architectural shots of London on your Flickr. Inspiring to look at.(y)

Wow thank you Alan, such kind comments (y)
I am a bit spoiled for choice of architecture in London :D

wonderful image very clean like the angle

Cheers Craig (y)

Hi Iain, very nice image for linked, nice B+W there is a lovely sheen to them and good composition also
I am sure thousands of people walk past them everyday and don't even notice

Yes, they probably do, the supports themselves are tucked away, many may walk past and not even give them a second glance.

Nice composition and mono conversion. The lighting works really well (y)

Thanks Michael (y)
There is a fair bit of light around these supports, not direct but slightly in shade which helps.

OMG...how on earth did I miss your Image , profuse apologies Iain.....:crying:

Lovely conversion, looks almost smooth ( I know what I mean :) ) , liking the angle , good lighting....nuff said

Lynne, absolutely no apologies necessary, I have been so slack in getting round others threads.

Thank you for your kind comments (y)

I feel i am treading water at the moment with my 52, it feels enough effort to post each week, I know I haven't entered the spirit of the 52 and I should be commenting more.:(

I hope normal service will resume shortly :D

Week 13 - Step
A literal take this week, post and be damned :D

C&C welcome as always.

*yawn*, not more steps....... ;)

Passable Iain... the brown of the handrail's the most interesting part of it for me.

:)

It was all I could muster in my avoidance of shooting one of my default subjects :D

To be honest, I am on the verge of sacking the 52 for this year :(
I will decide tonight when the new theme comes out whether or not I will continue.

I did sense a lack of enthusiasm..... In favour of putting more effort into POTY? Doing super well there aren;t you, but if you get your"shot for the month" in the first week, or even one for a later month you could well find yourself sat twiddling fingers. :)

edit - was going to "like" your last for your good natured reply, but shan;t in case you think I'd "like" to see your departure. :)

Yes the POTY is going well for me so far.
I am a bit ahead of myself with that to be honest Graham, I have already submitted my entry for April :D
Thats no bad thing though, it allows me more time to concentrate on the other themes for the following months.

Yes, I have lost a bit lot of enthusiasm for the 52 to be honest, but we will see, tonights theme might be a belter and it will get me fired up, alternatively it could be one of those themes recently suggested for the bag i.e. paradox and ambiguity in which case it will most probably be sacked tonight :D

Hi Iain well its certainly steps, I feel the same way this year about the 52 have been forcing myself to carry on.
you never know they might find out there is more than about 40 words in the English language and we don't have to keep repeating

Step - a literal take on the theme, but I am finding it lacking in interest for me. Sorry to be a party pooper but not your strongest effort, mind you sometimes it's hard to be creative with some off the themes. Here's hoping you get your mojo back and we get a fun theme for this week :)

On theme Iain.

Hope you don't leave the 52. Why not take a few weeks away and come back refreshed??

Cheers.

Cheers Andy (y)
I am still pondering about it, i like your suggestion but don't think a break would work for me, having to catch up would require effort :D

Forcing to carry on sounds familiar ;)

No apologies necessary, you must say what you think/feel, everyones opinion is valid.
Its not so much losing my mojo, I love my photography, always have, its just a lack of enthusiasm for the 52.

On theme Iain

Hope you don't drop out find you critique very helpful and hope you find you mojo for the 52 again soon

Cheers Craig (y)
I am glad you find my critique helpful, I just haven't been commenting as much as I should over these past few weeks due to my lack of enthusiasm.

Hi Iain
At least these steps don't make me feel dizzy ;)

:D Thanks Judi (y)
These ones being square(ish) must guard against dizziness eh? ;)
