blacks print brown

I'm trying to print some leterheads and when I print them in standard settings, the print comes out black, but the quality is low. So when I choose High quality, the print comes out crisp, but it appear brown like its suddenly using the colour inks instead of the actual black ink. Black areas of the graphic on the page come out black in both settings. Any ideas what setting i need to change to get the black print to print black?

Certain printer manufacturers supply black & greyscale inks that fool the printer into thinking it's printing RGB. At the moment your printer is using colour inks to create the mid tones of grey and it seldom works without resulting in a colour caste.

If you find a decent B&W printer for less than £400, please give me a shout

My printer (epson R200) allows you select greyscale as a print option, so I set it to high quality + greyscale

Yes^^ set it to high quality but click the greyscale box. Your printer will only use the black ink.
