Yes
Decided to go to b/puddle this aft & have a drive along the prom to see them. Haven't been for quite a few years now.

St. Annes for a `chippy tea` first @ 4.30pm, then got to the start at South shore bang on 5pm just as they turned them on.

Over 2 freakin hours to get up to Bispham (approx. 5 miles) & through them!!!!!

I won't be doing it again, that's for sure.

That'll teach ya!

Last time I went I'm sure they had all the traffic on a one way system, South to North, which must have helped, because I'm sure it didn't take quite so long to drive.

I actually remember doing the illuminations maybe 35 yrs ago. We set off from home (40 miles ish away) late afternoon with the intention of stopping in b/puddle for something to eat & having a wander.

Apart from nipping in a pub down at Squires Gate for a quick jimmy, while stuck in standing traffic, I never got out of the car & got home way after midnight.

It's summat that everyone should do once, especially kids, but me....... I'm done!

It's years since I went to see them too. Luckily last time I was driving an automatic and it was a doddle, but I've been through previously in manual cars and it's a nightmare with all that stop / start . The kids used to enjoy it then, but expectations have moved on and I doubt my grandson would be impressed at all. The only good thing is that Blackpool looks better in the dark! :p

Very true. I made the mistake of going to Blackpool during the day a couple of years ago. I couldn't believe what a toilet it was. Simply disgusting. My brother and his family were there two weeks ago, apparently it's not improved. Pity really.

For me, the illuminations used to be a sight of imagination and clever artistry with lights. Lots of different coloured bulbs making up pictures and/or animations.
Now it's just big pieces of plastic lit up.

Yep, automatic for me too. (y)
I guess it depends on the age of the kids, but yes, expectations defo have changed over the years.

It used to be a place where you could spend a week, but now 1 day is more than enough.
Always been a bit tatty in from the prom, but nowadays it's very run down & rough in large parts. :cautious:

I agree with you. Also, many of the lights/plastic displays are `sponsored` & imo spoils it even more. (n)

Progress eh.

The one and only time I've been there was in my professional capacity, one extremely large hotel
had a bed bug problem :D

What? You mean you found a hotel that didn't have any!?

Did you give them a price for pest removal or just an invoice for the individuals you had squished?

OT!
I thought the modern illuminations was to distract from the pools of vomit etc. on the pavement.

Did you give them a price for pest removal
That's the only reason I was there, you don't think I stayed in that one do you? :p

Only if it was cheap!!! TBH, I would 1/2 expect an infestation to affect the whole town - all it takes is a couple of (let's leave it as) less inhibited persons of each sex to spread the love lust about a bit and the potential number of affected places grows exponentially!

Not even if it was free, you have no idea what an infestation looks like.
They are rather like cock roaches in that respect, rarely seen, you have to look for the signs.

They come out at night, have a good feed and crawl back into their hiding places,
bed frames, draw joints, wall paper joints flaking paint, and many more.
Yes they do get "transferred", but being largely nocturnal, a lot less than you are probably thinking.
