This weekend, any suggestions on where to go to get the best vantage points, I will be using the sig 120-400 and possibly using the x 2 converter?

Oh and I will have the family with me :)

Thanks

Matt

Central pier but get there early and don't forget it's a two day event this year.

I was just about to say I'd be going but just looked and it's Sunday & Monday and the only day I'm free is Saturday :(

Thanks for the advice all, I can only do the sunday so hopefully the weather will be kind :)

Well i keep checking the weather. At the moment the consensus front the weather people is a few light showers in the morning then from about 1pm ish sunny spells..... Bit we will see on the day!

Cool, haven't got a clue what settings to use, never shot aircrafts before, hopefully lighting will be ok and allow me f9 and fast shutter speeds and low ISO :)

Well if you do some searches on here it will give you some clue.

But for prop stuff a nice panning technique is needed with a slowish shutter speed to get prop blur (1/200 should see you ok).

Jets, 1/1000 a good starting point.

Central focus point using AI Servo to continually focus on the subject.

And dial in anything up +2 exposure compensation (depending on lighting) to avoid black silhouettes of planes.

Also, depending on your camera body, there are useful pages on the net with how best to set your camera up in the custom settings for things like tracking and focus.

Thanks, ill be using the Sony a58 I reckon with the sig 120-400, maybe with the x2 converter, and tripod :)

Ahhh well i know nothing of specifics for sony so can't help too much, but the general settings i have mentioned should stand you in good stead to start.

Have you had a good look at the flying list?

Just checking it out now :)

Blackpool usually isn't a big affair but this year the seem to have found some change down the back of the sofa and have put quite a bit of stuff on.

didnt know there was a Blackpool airshow, Southport yeah

The first airshow was 1909 and been going ever since. Apart from stopping for the wars that is. Last year there where a record 150,000 spectators. that's the reason for spreading it over two days hoping that it will thin the crowds.

I think Monday is an odd day to have it though, unless that week is the peek holiday week with it being a tourist spot

Agreed its an odd day. Not even a bank holiday.
