Lets have a think before we cast the blame though - the Robertsons Golly and the black and white minstrels et al weren't just banned by 'the PC brigade' even though they were 'quite harmless'. They were banned by people who felt they had no option because mindless arseholes used the golly etc as a source of mockery of others. And bizarrely, it did appear to work - I can't remember the last time I heard the word 'wog'. Go figure.
Now, if only we could stop people being arseholes, we could all get on with our lives and keep our gollies etc. Unfortunately, the small minded will always mess it up for the rest of us.
You'll note no-one ever banned Othello because knuckle dragging arseholes don't 'do' culture, so no-ones going to shout across a pub 'Oi Othello - what are you f*****g looking at?'
