Black Vinyl

Morning - Just wondered if anybody could recommend a black vinyl please? My last one scratched up pretty quick and caused quite a lot of photoshop work.

What are you trying to do with it?

You might be better off with black velvet material... It's what I use for product and archive shots of silver and ivories. It really soaks up stray light nicely, unlike ninyl.

I'm struggling to see why this would happen.

I've had a black vinyl from ViewFinder for 18 months now which I use for events. It must have seen 250+ events, and some 3,000+ people on it without any damage.

Can you explain a bit more what the problem is and how it's caused ?

I have just ordered a vinyl from Bessel.Double sided matt black/brilliant white 2mx3m,£60 delivered.They send you a small sample first to have a look at before you order

Thanks guys - I think my last one came from Bessel.

I use it for portrait shots, and the background developed streaks rather than scratches. I suspect this might have had more to do with the way I've used it than the product itself.

Mines scuffed like mad too. Mines also from Bessel. Mines mostly from having kids on it that run around too much!

Would be interested to hear where people have bought vinyl backdrops from though. I'd be interested in buying a mid tone grey! But don't want to buy another from Bessel.

I've just bought a double sided black and white roll from XLStudiolighting via ebay, 2m x 6m for 75 quid plus a tenner delivery.Not been able to use it as yet as it was too heavy for my el cheapo backdrop stand but I have a heavy duty stand from them arriving this week so will post my thoughts after initial use.

From a quick look at it seems okay but I'm only going to be using it for home studio use and the odd shoot for friends etc so it's not going to get the rough treatment that an event photographer would put it through.

I've only had a cursory look at it Mank, while putting it on me cheapo stand which it wrecked. The new stand is due to arrive tomorrow so I'll be able to unroll it and have a better look. Will post after doing so.

Any update on it? Thinking of replacing mine.
