btw, use decent uhu glue or similar, and NOT pva glue, otherwise these fall apart.

What works pretty well is to get some black 'fun foam' (thin sheets of foam from craft shops) to surround the grid of straws, but again, decent glue is the key build it up in layers of straws.

have a read of the strobist link above. They are used to make snoots. You can get some interesting spotlight effects. well worth a play with on a rainy day.....
