Black specks?

I recently got a new canon 550D. Today I noticed while shooting some clouds three or four tiny black specs when I looked through the viewfinder. It was easy to see against the white clouds. As far as I can tell it doesn't show up in photos but I find it really distracting. This happened with my last camera which I used for years. I cleaned the lens front and back and even switched lenses and it was still there so I'm wondering if it's the viewfinder? The sensor or mirror? I've only changed lenses maybe three times since getting the camera so I'm really surprised.

Anyone have any experience with this or know what it could be and what I should do

Sounds like dust on your mirror. Take the lens off and use a blower to blow over the mirror.

Post a picture as it could be anything. I recently photographed some birds flying over my garden and I noticed some strange coloured bokeh balls at random places when I was shooting some continuos shots at 7fps. Turned out it was an insect flying across the frame which was obviously out of focus so I had to remove it in post lol.

What aperture was you using mate? If it was dust it would show predominantly at F16+.

If its visible through the viewfinder, its not on the sensor, it must be on the mirror, focus screen or in the viewfinder itself.
Give all areas a good blow with a rocket blower and hope it drops out.

It shows up no matter what the aperture is. Need to get hold of a blower and see if that sorts it out

I had a small hair on my 5D2 mirror that drove me mad. I gave it a blow but it wouldn't shift it so I very very gently wiped it with a microfibre cloth and that did the trick. But try it with a blower first, and not a canned air spray.

Hi, tried several times with the blower and even with micro fibre cloth. No luck :/

Sounds to me as though it's dust behind the viewfinder. It's not uncommon: you either live with it or send the camera off to Canon for a clean.

Oh great. How would that happen? As I've said it's quite new and I really haven't used it that much.
