Black screen and windows won't boot.

You need a real good mate with a working PC who will let you put bits of your PC in to try them, good luck with that one,

Might just chuck it out the window and buy a new one. :D

The law of diminishing returns applies with insoluble problems ;)

Hope the MB nails it for you mate, have you got the same model? if not you may have to reinstall windows, if the MB has onboard graphics, don't put the graphics card in for the install, (not happy about that card) one last thing are you useing a wireless keyboard, you may need a wired KB to get it going, good luck and dot't forget to ground your hands a lot or a wrist band.

Thanks Pete. Me too. Got the father in law doing it for me as it's more his kinda bag than mine. I could take pictures of him doing it i guess.

There was the same model for £37 but they were out of stock so got an Asus one for £66. If it doesn't work then it will be going back as they said it would work. Fingers crossed all will be good. Probably be a day or two before i get it back though. Not in any real rush though, just wanting it sorted.

Just a little update to this thread.

It was indeed the motherboard that was at fault so i now have an Asus A88MX-PLUS fitted which does look a far better board for sure. Also have a new CPU fan as the old one didn't fit on the new board. It's an Alpine silent model. Looks a little bigger too which can only be a good thing I'm guessing? It also now has a 500w PSU fitted instead of the original 300w model. And it now has the 16gb RAM fitted that i ordered before it went kaput.

Only downside is that it has killed my front panel which is a bit of a pig as i did use the memory card reader and front USB sockets but i have a spare card reader which i have plugged into the rear USB socket so not really an issue i guess. It could just be a driver issue, need to look into it further. Meh.

Thanks everyone for your help, really appreciated.

David.

Now where are those overclocking guides i saw...
