Hi All,

I have been away from here for ages as sort of went through a patch of not picking my camera up :(

I am going to do something about that and gonna start it off by getting a new toy :D

I have had a search and have decided to go for the Black Rapid RS-5. Now there are one or two posts on here about it but nothing much. Have any of you got this strap? If so what do you think?

I know there are Quick Straps on ebay but when hanging my Sigma 50-500 upside down I don't want to be hoping a cheap Chinese knock off holds. This, however, means I am going to want a really Black Rapid which for some reason are very costly. I can find the RS-5 for between £60-£70. Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper?

Thanks in advance,

Rusk

I've got one of the double quickstraps that I got off eBay and I've spent a full day shooting a wedding with a D300/24-70mm/SB600 on one side and D300/70-200mm/SB800 on the other side so in excess of £3,500 worth of kit hanging from it.

I had no problems what so ever and it all felt totally secure.

I have a hand strap on my 1D which I then clipped on a £3 screwgate non climbing carabiner from Wickes attached to an ordinary neck strap. Camera hangs on my hip quite happily. Could do with being a little longer but for the outlay I can't complain!

I have a Black Rapid RS-7 and find it excellent, they are expensive but the best strap I have used. I also bought a Luma Loop recently which works in a similar fashion but uses cordage instead of a metal loop to hang the camera from, I have yet to use it.

The Luma Loop gets some excellent reviews and many prefer it to the BR.

The other option is to make up something yourself or buy a cheap Chinese copy from Ebay as others have said, personally I would not risk a 1Ds3 and 70-200mm lens to something without some pedigree to it.

Hope this helps,

Paul.

I think the Black Rapid is the best thought out in the details of attachment and use. RS-7 is a v good strap.

Hmmm well I may only have a 400D currently but shortly that will get upgraded to either a 50D or a 7D. So with one of them and my 50-500 bigma I am gonna want something I can trust in. Plus if the strap should break would mean I have someone to go back to rather than just a random China man :p

So now the challenge to find it for a decent price! The RS-5 and 7 seem the same price most places but think I will go with the 5 as it has all the pockets without having to buy all the mods on the 7.

You can also have a look at the Cali sunbounce sun-sniper as an alternative. Works for me.
