SO! I picked an RS4 up today and its a beautiful piece of kit, im considering ditching the other half and marrying the damned thing!

However, Im slightly cautious about using it with the battery grip on my 5dii. Probably because of the fitting and what not but do any of you use a BR with a grip? Inspire me with confidence people!!

Are there any instructions relating to use with a grip?
I know the grip is very secure on the camera but is it designed to carry the weight of the camera?
Maybe worth dropping a line to Canon.

Andy

I've been using an Op-tech Sling strap (similar to the Black Rapid) with an Black Rapid tripod screw connector for a while with my 5D2, both with the battery grip and without.

No disasters so far Vaughan....

p.s. The Op-Tech Sling Strap may not be beautiful but she's really dirty :naughty:, wouldn't take her home to meet my mum but she's a lot of fun....

LOL!!!

Thanks for that, I feel a bit better already!

I havent read the manual yet... Maybe one day but as a male rule number one always applies - Columbus didn't need directions, neither do we...

Yup. RS-7 on the 5D2 with OEM grip. Not had any problems thus far...

I use a quick strap with grip on my 50D without any problems

I use one with a gripped Mk2 with no problems. I have made a safety line out of 2 eye-clips and a short length of sleel cord that is attached to the strap and grip, just incase the screw fit comes loose....... maybe overkill but Im a belt and bracers type of guy.

I don't have a grip but if I did I'd use one without a second thought. The only problems with these things that I've heard about relate to the attachment coming loose, not breaking - specifically folks using an adapted Manfrotto RC2 tripod plate instead of the real deal.

It's a confidence thing. If it's all put together properly no way is anything going to break.

Had that nearly happen to me ... K-5 with DA* 60-250mm f4 attached.
Screw fit was connected to the tripod mount on the lens, went for the camera and as I picked it up the screw came out of the mount.

Another couple of seconds and I reckon that would have been over 2k worth of equipment lying on the concrete pavement.

Watching the tips video on the blackrapid site they recommend putting water/spit on the screw before installing it so that it has a stronger grip.

Not tried it yet myself as I only got my strap a couple of days ago.
