Whats all the fuss about, why on earth do some people have to look for a racist slant on everything.

The faces are black because it represents soot covered children who climbed down chimneys delivering Xmas presents

Problem with all the Euro HR stuff is Racism is not what's intended it's how it's perceived, even by third parties.
 
Dunno whatcha on about, but i`ll guess at some do gooder being outraged on behalf of some body who they think might be outraged? When, in fact,they don`t give a sheet.

The numpties would be happy if Pete were renamed to White Pelt or another colour but the Dutch say Pete is Black and will remain so, however he is not black skinned but black because hes covered in Chimney soot.

The world has gone mad, we had a local ub renamed because Muslims found it offensive because it was called the Pig and Whistle FFS, its now a Tesco extra store

Having worked in Holland during the holiday period when Pete is around I have to say I was amazed some do gooder never picked up on it. The local white guys however were less than impressed that a tradition should be removed because an immigrant group didn't like it and tbh I think they have a point. If you don't like the customs of a country you wish to emigrate to them don't go?

Well according to the interview on the BBC with one of the organisers it was to do with soot covered children who Santa sent down chimneys

Not that it matters either way, Black Pete is Black, end of story.

Wikipedia is rubbish by the way

Just your opinion of course.

Perish the thought that the person the BBC interviewed might be biased in any way.

The traditional costume is derived from Moorish dress and an afro wig is not indicative to me of a child covered in soot so not quite "end of story".
 
Of course its end of story, Black Pete is black, how clearer do you want it to be made, forget all the tradition stuff and all the controvesy and just ask yourself one question

What colour is Black Pete

I am not disputing the fact that he is physically black in colour but your original post brought up the fact that racism is involved and the explaination that you gave there is WRONG.

The facts are that he is depicting a black slave which is where the racism comes into it whether you like it or not.

Is it racist, they use Pete to help St Nicklaus (incidentally some weeks before Christmas, which is still a quiet refrained religious ceremony in Holland) distribute sweets and gifts to the children, so he is very much a loved character. Racism is usually a term used when a group of people are seen in a bad way.

i wonder if the muslims who complained (if they actually did) now shop there ,as tesco was founded by a jewish man .you will always get someone who plays the race card either because they are personally being picked on or have extreme radical views ,the trouble is they then bring the other 99% of there race or religion into the firing line with them ,the ones that don't give a toss and just want to live in peace .
i have just read a book (fiction) where the story line is based on the supposition that jesus was a character invented by nero who paid people (the disciples) to spread the word of his miracles in israel ,to help quell the rebellion taking place at that time .and it just got out of hand .
quite a compelling read and left me with a sense of "what if"
