This is not the USA... stop telling me about Black Friday sales.... We don't have Thanksgiving! We don't have Black Friday.

I hate the Americanisation (not Americanization) of things here.

On receipt of their sale email, I might have sent an reply to John Lewis explaining that here in the UK we don't have a Thanksgiving holiday, so today is "completely normal Friday".

You must have small Asda, my nearest 3 all sell everything, the non food sections are at least as big as the grocery section.

£99 for a 32" LCD or Samsung S3 was a pretty good deal.
 
Argos were pimping their Black Friday discounts on their web site yesterday. But they didn't state what the discount was merely that the displayed prices had the discount already built in. In the end, I couldn't be arsed to order online as everything I wanted was listed as not available in-store. So I went to the local store today - and the prices were exactly the same - and not everything was out of stock.

Retailers - from the same gene pool as politician and bankers.

It's not just the commercial aspects, it's picking up things like American spelling, using # instead of No. or number and using stupid phrases which make no sense like "my bad" and "I could care less".

And using American pronunciations of words.

I was in an Asda too and it was no different from any other Friday.
 
No shock involved at all. But why use a foreign event to do it? After all black Friday doesn't really mean anything over here.

But it does have a meaning over here. The internet has shrunk the world considerably which makes it all the more easy for these types of concepts to transfer between countries, especially between the UK & US and remember, companies like Amazon & Asda have a massive presence in both. At the end of the day, it's a massive marketing opportunity and any well run business doesn't ignore those.
 
Now it's Cyber Monday, mind you there are a Lorraine good discounts out there!
