Black Friday

Yes, I've assumed that's what it is, based on what I've read.
Very clever [well not really]. Just as well everyone knows it's YOU the comment refers to.

Perhaps you could tell us exactly why?[assuming you even know]. Are you related to him?

Is now not the right time to start a MJ joke thread?........

Cedric,I didn`t take offence at all ,I didn`t read all of your post as I "had my head up my arze"............:D

As well as photography I have a huge interest in metal detecting. I used to belong to a number of detecting fora but one by one they become over moderated.

I read with interest the post which questioned the validity of having "Out of Focus" as a general chat part of this forum and whether general chat has a part to play on a photography forum. This is a question that comes up regularly on many, many forums.

In my opinion, general chat area's play a vital part of turning a source of information into a community. It is by having general discussion that friendships and relationships are formed.

I hated the sterile nature of the metal detecting fora, I hated being watched over, moderated, censored and berated by people who's only qualification to do so was that they didn't get away from the keyboard often enough.

So I started my own forum.

At the beginning it was hell, the children had been let loose with no boundaries and by Christ did they explore the possibilities. As time has marched on however, they have become self moderating. Those amongst the membership who were troll soon got ignored instead of moderated..... they left because they were no longer getting a bite to the bait they lay out. Those who remain have become self moderating. If offence is caused then the default answer to an offensive post is to inform the poster, openly and publicly, that they have caused offence. 99% of the time the reply will be an apology.

It's not a metal detecting forum, it's a forum for people who also go metal detecting.

that's the crux of what I'm taking far too long to say. We are not just photographers, we are people with hobbies, jobs, families and we also take photos and have a passion for doing so.

if you think that there shouldn't be an "Out of Focus" section on this forum, thenb either don't visit this section or exercise your freedom to not come back .... or even start your own forum if that is your want.

But please, please, don't visit a forum and question the validity of the section, neither should you critsise the Mods/Admin. It's unpaid work for a start and it's not your home, it's Mr Moule's and he can do with it whatever he wishes.

Done that, got the t-shirt .... Not that it did me any good.

actually Kev, the posts are going to be removed shortly;), amazingly enough I have to work one day a week, it just happened to be today that i was working :p

Sorry Matty,

I have had a bee in my bonnet about this post for most of the day.

I reported the post twice at lunchtime and thought I was being ignored. Marcel had sent me an email to explain. Should learn to check my emails more often.

Anyway, one day a week? ..... Slacker .. :D

No worries Kev, its been a funny old day today, something in the water i think

For the record, I deliberately left that problematic post in (for which the poster was suspended), to show why he was suspended. I thought people might just take the hint.
(Edit, this was explained to Kev by email as he says above. So just to reiterate this isn't aimed at you Kev, it's a general post with regards to all the points raised about today's / last night's "incidents" :))

Unfortunately though, it seems we can't do right for doing wrong sometimes.
We over moderate we get called nazi's....we undermoderate and we're accused of letting people run riot. We try and find a good balance, but we can't please everyone all of the time.

So unfortunately it comes down to the old adage, report it if you don't like it. If we don't act on it, it's for a reason. OK, we might not explain that reason every single time, but you will have to trust that there will be a reason. We see reports and alot of behind the scenes stuff too which others might not see.
Often, members come into a thread and only see half the story. They might not see the removed posts, they certainly won't have seen any preceding PM's between staff and a member, be they warnings, explanations or anything else.

So please don't judge us on the basis of what bits of info you can see. We really do have this place's interests at heart EVERY single time we make a decision, and at the forefront of the decision is the members. Be they the ones who are causing trouble, the ones caught up in something, but we always think of the forum and the greater situation when moderating.

OK, we don't always post perfectly, but b****r me we're ALL human. Even we are allowed opinions too! We're not politicians, we don't want to distance ourselves with every single slightly polarising topic just incase.....we're members here too ya know and we might feel strongly about something.

We don't always get it right, and we do take on board when we get it wrong.
If you see a post that you don't like, report it. Even if its a member of staff, admin or mod...report it. A thread gets created in the staff room each time, and we all discuss it.
Hell, even I've been reported before now, and I've been moderated for it. I've even self-moderated after someone has reported me as it has made me realise what I posted wasn't actually fair.

We're all human, and we're all members. We all have a right to an opinion, and we're all gonna drop balls from time to time. Just bear that in mind before you write someone off.....sometimes a little private nudge in the ribs might be all that's needed ;)

OK... this a personal dig at me as far as I can see. For the sake of closure at least, please enlighten me as to who I insulted.

When you're feeling better of course. ;)
For the record 2ble4u and I have exchanged PMs on this. I think we agree to disagree about what constitutes an insult.

thats the most accurate thing i've heard all day.
In my experience photographers are often complete numptys (replace with appropriate swear word)

but bare in mind most of the photographers i meet are motorsport photographers and arent members of this forum.
have i dug myself out yet? :)

No, but when backing up it is customary to make the "beep beep" noise.

Lots of good points being made here, especially Sheddy's...if I needed any convincing, that is exactly why we need an OOF section...

Now I'm going to drink more coffee...schutzenfest is on here now and I drank my entire year's quota of beer last night and have to do all it again tonight...I think I took some photos somewhere, so I'll be looking at those to see what kind of drunken louts I was hanging out with...God, my head hurts...
