Black /dark back grounds

How to people get such black/Dark b/g. Even out side shots has a black b/g. Is this all done in ps or some software.

Depends on the subject, I've managed to shoot flowers before by using the flash and somehow really underexposing the background, not sure how though.

I use a combination of black card and some tweaking of brightness and contrast most times Seems to work

nuke the subject with a flash, and not the background... expose accordingly.

Depends what your shooting but I use the back of my photography case, the black plastic works well...

Did this on black perspex with a tweek in levels:



Macro with flash outdoors often gives black BG as it is so underexposed. The flash sorts out the subject but the BG at 1/200 f16 iso100 is usually very dark.
