Black cotton Sheet

Going to buy me a Black cotton sheet today from Dunelm Mill, 2.5m x 6m to use as a backdrop, they dont have muslin in stock, so this is just a cotton sheet, will this be ok for the job in hand (portraits)??

It all depends on how you light it & what effect you want. if you want it to stay black you need it to be quite a way back from your subject or angle your subject lights so they don't illuminate the background. Put it this way ( providing you studio is big enough ) you can achieve a black background with a white sheet by not allowing light to hit it.
