Black Background Material

Looking to try some low key shots and want to create a black background, so what material am i best using?

Black velvet is best, but very expensive. Lencarta does a black material background that's pretty good and affordable, available in two lengths I think.

thats what i was thinking, just looking at cheaper muslin options on ebay at the moment for the few uses it might have

There have been some tutorials linked recently, if you light it right you can make anything black. it's worth a hunt for.

It may be worth nipping down to your nearest Am Dram Theatre ... I got a load of black velvet when my local one were replacing their "Blacks" (Side and Top Stage Borders) ... either that or they may even hire them out to you?
