Black and white.

Please excuse my ignorance. Could one of you explain , in simple words, how I can take black and white photos. with my D40? Thankyou.

You don't - you take colour ones and convert them later on your computer

Simple enough?

I set my Canon 30D to B&W a lot of the time. It doesn't save fully in B&W and Lightroom converts back to colour but its great for thinking in B&W.
