Very informative many thanks

Great tutorial, very clear. Thanks

Just caught up with this Jacob - great tutorial thanks!!

Good stuff, Jacob, thanks.

I'm really going to have to stump up for Silver Efex, I think...

Thanks Jacob, I'll give that profile a go

Thanks Jacob

Really helped as I'm new to LR, previously I had used Aperture.

Very useful indeed, it is great to be walked through the process, many thanks for doing this and sharing it.

Really good tutorial Jacob, thanks. The edited photo is excellent

I am definitely going to have to invest in Lightroom 4.

Great tutorial thankyou. I've been wondering about silver efex for a while. Its now going to be my next purchase :)

Nice clear tutorial

quick question, do you adjust noise and sharpening prior to silver efex?

Hello blasted,

I very rarely do noise reduction but if I do it is always before heading into Sillver Efex, same with sharpening on the raw file. If I need to give it a final output sharpen I will generally run it through Nik Sharpener

Hi

Great tutorial.
couple of questions as i am solely a lightroom 3 man (i have tried PS, PS elements but never really got on with the layering thing).

I have lightroom 3 running on a 4 year old macbook pro.
Im interested in getting the silver FX Pro.

Do i have to buy any special plugin version or do i need to do anything in lightroom for it to recognise Silver FX?

I have had a quick search but can see anything that answers my quesiton.

Is at simple as i buy solver FX, install it and hey presto, lightroom recognises it....:bonk:

Yeah just buy it and it will install into all compatible programs, it should also be backwards compatible as far as I am aware :-)

thanks

I tried it last night with the 15 day free trial.....already sold on its capabilities. Your tutorial was used to process a bw prtrait of a friends daughter and i have to say it was a stunning result.

Its funny, i thought my B&Ws via lightrrom processing looked good, but in comparison they look quite flat against what can be done with silver fx.

So now i have to revisit a number of photos and re process.......will this ever end lol!!!!:D

I also looked at your website. Fantastic shots, particularly as i have been to all the same places. I loved Shi Pan Don (sp) in southern laos. Did you get to see any irrawaddy dolphins by any chance....?

Much appreciated for the help. Yet again TP and its members have proved invaluable!!

Thanks for the comments on the website, it's nowhere near complete but 5 months in Asia and then a move to Leeds got in the way.

Glad the tutorial was a help, after using Silver Efex my black and white work improved 100% it's just so easy to use and doesn't require any advanced photoshop or Lightroom skills to get good results.

The only problem I have is that it is all too easy to convert everything to black and white and sometimes I neglect colour.

Anyway have fun having a play and thanks again for the comments on the website, it is most appreciated.

All the best
