Hi everyone.

As the title says,I've been looking into trying some B&W processing with a couple of my landscape shots in Photoshop.

Now I've looked on the net at certain tutorials ranging from straight out desaturating, and others using the Channel Mixer RGB scales.

I've tried both of these techniques, but neither really look any better (to me at least) than if I'd simply done it in-camera via JPEG :)

Many of the B&W shots I see on here and elsewhere have beautiful rich Blacks etc.,which is what I'd really like to learn in the long run.

Any help as to what methods I need to learn would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

James.

I used to process each image myself using channels or desaturate and the like. Now the later versions of PS have such a good selection of B&W filters its hardly worth the effort, I use a Black and white adjustment layer these days. I still add grads, dodge and burn, with a 50% gray soft light, overlay layer.
Have a look on the last page of the “PP Game” thread and see how David (Pookeyhead) did his B&W train conversion it really is B&W.
I have learned a lot from the “PP Game” thread, if you see something you like ask how they did it.
