Well, this is a great start to my summer holidays! I was out and about earlier going up to the local highest point - a trip i have done many times before. Part of this route crosses through a farmers house. Its a right of way so traffic / walkers regularly walk through this section of land. As I was walking through three sheep dogs darted out and started barking at me. I calmly continued on with my trek when one decided to nip me on the back of the leg. Unfortunately he did break skin and drew a little blood :-(.

So now I am sitting here in A & E after being advised by NHS to go into hospital. The weird thing is that this place is not even that busy but there is still a three hour wait!

I've taken by laptop so that i can plan a few lessons; anyone got any entertainment ideas for when the laptop battery dies?

"One man and his dog"? :D

Sorry to hear you've been bitten - if it really is a public right of way then it needs to be reported as it could happen again and with perhaps more serious results, especially if it's a group of dogs.

Useless without pics.

Its literally nothing, just a small cut. However, we were advised to go to the hospital to get it checked out. I wouldn't want to report it and something bad happen to the dog though that's the only thing.

Unlikely anything bad would happen if it's the first time it has bitten, but the owner needs to know what has happened and the risk to him if he doesn't take action to prevent it biting again.

Will do then. I'll phone them tomorrow. To the previous posters: I didn't take any photos as I was too busy running away.

I'm in two minds here, but
I think, on balance, it'd best to hide the thread before Steve see's it :D

Hope you are OK BTW :)

Just been seen by the nurse- antibiotics and a tetanus jab coming up :-(

This is where I gloat about having a natural immunity to tetanus. Had to learn that the hard way though lol

Glad that's all you needed though.

Indeed. Definitely report it though, because as suggested, next time it could be a child or much worse for another adult.

Maybe the dogs thought you were a danger to the sheep :)

Or maybe they thought you WERE a sheep.
Are you by any chance blonde? Curly hair? Odd bleating sound when disturbed?

It's always good to have a good heavy wooden walking stick/staff when out in the country ;).

Evens the odds up a little...

Good plan I've had a couple of worrying moments when dogs have ran at me but turned out that they wanted to play

This happened to me years ago when I was doing my paper round. Sheepdog outside a house came hurtling at me and broke skin tetanus and antibiotics. You might want to get one of these I take it when I'm walking the dog in case any other dogs attack him. Obviously I'm only carrying it to help me walk and to take photos as doubles up as a monopod. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002DOUX...1405885468&sr=1&keywords=tripod+walking+stick

Were you wearing a skirt? My dog when a puppy would always go for the calves when skirts were flapping about.

Seriously was it a puppy with teeth being sharp that they break skin easily. I'd see that as very different to a grown dog who would have to really grab you and bite you to break skin.

Anyway hope you are ok

Too late. Hope the OP is ok. Report the matter if need be is my advice. I believe it is your civic duty to report dogs like this in case they need destroyed . This could happen to someone else or it happened in the past. Aggressive dangerous dogs only have a place six feet under... IMHO.

Shocker.

He looks a bit sheepish in his avatar. Anyway the dog bit off more than he could chew this time.

Hope the OP feels better soon. On a positive note he should sue the owner for not controlling his dog(s) and buy a new lens.

Next time a small child out walking with his family may get savaged, maimed or killed. It's the irresponsible dog owners that need punishing.

Money isn't the answer but holding the dog owner accountable. By reporting it to the police they can take action if needed.

bet you couldn't, we will
just have to disbelieve you ;)

I tell you what princess, let's both sustain an injury from, say, a rusty nail....then let's both not seek medical assistance. Then let's see who feels ok after a couple of days.

Natural resistance to a particular disease isn't unusual. Even the most decimating diseases known to man aren't 100% fatal, and tetanus is far from that.

Google is your friend....if you can be bothered, that is :-)
