Hi there
I'm sorry to bother you all but I was wondering if I can ask you a bit of a stupid question about your bessa r4?
Does the shutter speed dial make a bit of a squeak whilst turning through the slow speeds I. E 8th of a sec down to bulb?
I just noticed today makes a bit of a funny noise whilst selecting the slow speeds and then doesn't make any noise at all selecting the faster ones???
Also does it turn right the way round? I can't remember if it's supposed to stop or not??
The gentleman at robert white I spoke to couldn't remember either but said I can send it in. I just thought I'd ask first encase I'm being daft!!
Sorry about this I feel a bit of an idiot starting a new thread for such a daft question!!
Kind regards
Andy

No such thing as a daft question Andrew.

Knowing this lot, you'll get some daft answers too.

:D

I feel a complete tool honestly lol!!
I was taking out a part used film, pressed the spool release button and started to rewind.
It seemed really difficult to wind back and when I let go of the lever it sprang back round as if I've stretched the film.
I'm not entirely sure I didn't try rewinding without winding the shutter on after the shooting the last frame.
I'm kinda paranoid I've brokeen something now aaaahgh!!

It wouldn't matter if you hadn't wound on because when you press the release button the winding mechanism is released. There will be some spring in the film because it's wound tightly inside the cartridge so letting go of the rewind lever will normally make it spring back a bit so don't worry :0)

That's great to know thanks so much I've had a propper panic on haha!!!!

The slower speeds will make a noise when set as the slow-speed escarpment is wound up in the process. This is not used for faster speeds. On my Pentax MX, 1/30 and slower make the (slight) noise and also need slightly more effort to set.

Thanks so much for the reply John
Raglansurf kindly checked his r4 for me and said he shutter speed dial isn't supposed to spin right round like mine does and the noise is the same for each speed selected.
Looks like I'll have to post it back to robert whites to be checked over.
Thanks again for all your help gents it's much appreciated

So I sent the camera to robert whites for what I thought was for them to send it to a UK repair centre, turns out they actually had a demo bessa r4m, a bessa r and a bessa t and they all sound exactly the same as mine and the shutter speed dials spin continuously on all of them like mine. Yey!
Mines getting posted back up tomorrow, so panic over!!!

Good news. Get the film out of the fridge in readiness.

Cheers mate! I can't wait to have it back!
Contemplating selling some of my fuji gear and picking up a zeiss 28mm for it
