I like the tablet with its ease of use but:
1. Not many portfolio apps (found some but not fully tried)
2. Limited website access (facebook for free items )
3. Camera remote apps not tried any yet as waiting for adapter but some reviews are not great

There are other small thing but can't think at the moment

Should I return it for a iPad (don't want one but they seem to be great for photographers supposedly )
Or get something like the surface but I would want the pro for full use of it

Can't advise you but I don't like the ipad!

More because I don't like the way Apple makes you do things and not being a Mac household quite a few things don't work very well if at all.

I do like the function of a tablet and I've thought about the surface pro but doubt I'll like the price when announced.

The more I think about it the more I think an ultrabook convertible is going to be the way forward. Still to decide which one and will wait a month or few as there are not many variations to choose from yet but the concept seems to do what I'd want in a portable device.

I don't own a single mac but have apple devices. Doesn't make much if any difference.

Apple does have the tendency to brainwash people

Point 4 was hotmail
I can get a hotmail with more options going through stock internet
But not through chrome
It's like the tablet simplifies/limits things

I don't want to root it but don't know if that would unlock stuff

I am in the same boat, so how exactly do you drag stuff onto your ipad?

Not exactly a drag and drop drive, is it?

That was one of them rhetorical doo dahs, Neil, ipad is a pain in the proverbial cf Windows stuff!

I bought a note to see how it compared to the ipad, and there is no competition, the ipad is slick and responsive, we're the note is not, the keyboard is awful. It feels very PC is the whole app stage, bits here and there etc.....

Will be using it as a coaster I think.

Apple stuff is the same and with its simple all the same setup no-one wants to change from it
Yeah the iPad might be faster sometimes
But I want it for a portfolio and also my toy/work thing

I have an iPod but it's the classic with wheel thing which is great
Only because I couldn't get on with the Zen

I'm willing to accept it may be me but I keep finding things it will not do or crashes when trying (and nor will my iphone 3gs) and those same tasks my wifes android phone does perfectly with no fuss.

I probably wouldn't like an android tablet either so I'm not really helping the OP other than to say that for me the ipad is far from perfect.

Should be in the conspiracy theory thread i believe!

You're right! I didn't even realise I'd been subjected to some kind of covert mind control.

whats that got to do with being on a windows or osx machine?

crashing apps, id blame the developer not the hardware.. most issues ive had recently is the TP app crashing :(

..........:(

Absolutely nothing!

However your reply to this statement....

" More because I don't like the way Apple makes you do things and not being a Mac household quite a few things don't work very well if at all."

"I don't own a single mac but have apple devices. Doesn't make much if any difference."

....made me think you were applauding the ipad for being easy to use.

I then decided to show you how wrong you were:D

1. What portfolio apps does the iPad have which you know of? Do you know of any features as there could be Android equivalents for free. You'd be surprised how many Android apps are free when you have to pay for them on ios. But, ios does have some amazing apps.

2. Can you be more specific? I am yet to find a website that won't load on my note. I even watch plenty of non televised premier league action on my note. I can't fault it for Web access.

3. Can't help you there but there is a thread on here somewhere about camera Android apps.

As for the displaying images. Retina is great, my wife has the iPad 3. But the difference is not that big. I believe that the new nexus 10 has a higher pixel count though.

Oh and everyone. Play nice. Stop Willy waving and enjoy your suspension if you get one.

You don't slate apple and get away with it on TP. Beware.

padfolio is a good one, there is a lite version for free :)

1. I have 2 portfolio apps just need to test them now
2.Think I've worked out it's chrome that's limited
3. Have a few remote apps but waiting for the adapter for usb (in the post)
4. Hotmail works but slightly limited on stock internet

I got my iPad portfolio app info from the internet (probably an apple fanboy writing the info)

I don't have a Note 10.1, but I do have the original Note 5.3.

1. I have no idea how a portfolio app differs from any other photo viewing app, but the built in Gallery app will handle photos on internal storage and also online Picasaweb albums. Quickpic is also a nice photo viewer.

2. Chrome browser on the Note 5.3 works fine. It also syncs bookmarks with the Chrome desktop browser.

3. DSLR Controller

I can't be bothered with wires between devices and find Airdroid to be a terrific way to manage content on the device from a desktop browser.

Oh, and if I was looking to buy a tablet today, which really I am not, the shortlist in no particular order would be Galaxy Note 10.1, iPad something, Nexus, Asus Transformer Infinity TF700T with keyboard.

I found drop box is good
As for using it as a remote it's just for attempting moon shots but not needed

And the portfolio apps for organising photos for customers in separate folders

I use Dropbox too. Tis good. Actually I have all my photos in Dropbox - around 5GB worth once resized to fit a full HD display - as well as other bits and bobs. The photos aren't in Dropbox for the benefit of my Note, but rather for my two laptops and my media centre PC to be synced up. The photos are available from the Note, but only with an internet connection available.

Regarding folder organisation, I do all that on my laptop and then copy the entire folder structure over to my Note. I don't do much file management on the Note itself, although with the built in "My Files" app, or ES File Explorer those options exist too. ES File Explorer can also access online storage such as Dropbox, Skydrive and others so you can copy stuff back and forth from the Note as well as from the desktop PC.
