Scotland Birthday Holiday

Its a big Birthday for me this year and to celebrate I get to choose where we are going on holiday....

I have the family interested in Scotland for a week or two, I went as a small boy and have only visited on odd occasions later , place like Glasgow and Edinbrugh for work.

I want to go around Oban, can anyone recommend places to photograph and/or places to stay.

Plan is to go late march early April

Kilchurn Castle on the banks of loch Awe in any weather is excellent for photography,
it is a very moody location. Castle Stalker for Sunsets is wonderful. These two excellent locations for photography. There are lots of coastal location as well

Can't recommend anywhere in particular but as you want to be based around Oban and if you have the time, you could split your trip between the mainland and Mull.

Also have a look at the WalkHighlands website. It has details of walks in all parts of Scotland, everything from gentle strolls to full days on the mountains

Can recommend the Kilmartin Hotel for a stop over. 30 miles south of Oban http://www.kilmartin-hotel.com
Loch Etive is stunning, as is Kilchurn castle on Loch Awe, as mentioned.

Make it May if you can. It looks horribly grey and brown early in the spring with a lot of rainfall.

Only two times I've been up there I haven't had one with me, but the scenery is pretty spectacular in the highlands!!
