Does anyone know of good places to get pics of BoP and birds in the S.Yorkshire area?
Google shows reserves but does not say if there are good numbers to get pics of (especially at this time of year), and there is very little re BoP opportunities

Potteric Carr nature reserve was not a bad place if I recall. No birds of prey, but for bird watching generally it was a great spot. I haven't ever been at this time of year though.
Blacktoft sands nature reserve at the Trent/Ouse confluence often had marsh harriers around, but it's a while since I've been and I have no idea what times of the year I saw them, so I'd check up on that too.

A short drive to the Peak District will be your best bet for birds of prey.
Derwent Valley is excellent for Buzzards, Kestrels, Hobby and Tawny Owl.

That sounds very promising, I can get there fairly easily as well, Thanks :)

My brother often walks his dog around Ladybower ( A57 ) and the reservoirs in the Longdendale valley (A628) , and often reports on the birds Busby mentions above also Peregrine.

:agree:

But as it's mainly reed beds at this time of year last year the reeds were quite long and made it difficult to see. But it's definitely a brilliant place in Winter especially with several Bitterns that visit.

Well worth a look IMHO.

Susie, these were taken on a large industrial estate in Swansea, birds are everywhere, keep your eyes open and you`ll see allsorts where you least expect them.

Not brilliant images, but you get my drift........:)

Thanks a lot  looks like its going to be Ladybower and the reservoirs nowish then Potteric Carr in the winter, that way there is a decent chance of be finding some birds! Just be aware that the day I decide to go all other togs should stay away because my presence will get rid of all birds within a 1/2 mile radius

I do see them in odd places, but sods law states that I will either be going up a motorway at the time or will not have the camera with me at the time - I did have a hawk of some sort watching me for about 20 mins one day when I was riding in the arena!!
