I have had some feeders set up for a while now, but in the last couple of weeks I appear to have attracted a vandal :(

The peanut feeder had the plastic base pecked to the point where it would no longer stay on the feeder, so I now have an all metal one.
The sunflower seed feeder has over a week or so had the little perches pecked off, then whats left of the inserts that the birdies stick their heads in to feed have been ripped out and Monday I could not put one of them back because the edge of the feeder hole had been pecked and would no longer hold it.

Last night the vandal had really upped its game and has now destroyed the large feeder. I had noticed that the part they cling to was getting pecked, but yesterday the little monster(s) had managed to peck underneath it and the base was on the floor (along with the feed) and there is no way I can get it together again - too badly damaged.

So - I now have the nijer feeder (so far undamaged), peanuts in an all metal feeder, and a (metal) fat feeder.

Does anyone know where I can get a metal seed feeder as plastic seems to be very attractive to my vandal, or what bird do I need to shoot to stop the feeders getting eaten!! I have not seen the vandal or I would have given it a good talking to, I'm pretty sure I don't have squirrels (there don't seem to be any in the area), and the birdies I see are bull, green, gold and chafffinches, and great, blue and long tailed tits plus various small brown varieties none of which have admitted to the crime!!

Any help appreciated as they are missing a lot of seed food now!!

Prob squidgers.... They'll chew through anything, they get through our wire ones as quickly as I can fix them.

So I need a squidger gun, I will have to see if I can find something to keep them away that won't hurt the innocent!

Even the so call squirrel proof ones only offer them a bit of a challenge, keeps them entertained for a while lol.

What about getting a squidger feeder ? Might keep them distracted... I saw that suggested online somewhere a while back.

Thanks, I may try the squidger proof feeders as I don't want to encourage them, not seen any in the area so its possibly just the one that may go away if it cannot get at the food, even if it just provides entertainment it will be something!
I did not think a squidger would be able to stay on the round clinger feeder as it is on nylon string and swings around when birds use it.

I am still going to try and find some metal seed feeders so that they are harder to chew through, and it looks as if I may need to spend more time sitting there to see if it appears!

The swinging feeders don't seem to worry them here... the only thing that's stopped them is ice on the post, then they couldn't climb it.

?

Give up if you think you can make something that won't allow a squirrel access (unless of course you attach the feeder to a balloon.:p

You'll never stop them, lol

Haha D.S., I bet the squirrels love that assault course.

 Thats it, I will use a balloon and have a greased rope to the feeder with an upturned funnel so if they do get to the rope the funnel will shoot them off

Weird thing is that it was the seed containers they really set about, yet today I put seed on a tray and they have not touched it :bang: At least there are no tooth marks on the nut container - yet!!!

We went through this last year, the little beggars destroyed all the feeders including the niger. We've splashed out on caged feeders now, fastened to the the pole with wire and lids secured with wire. They still try occasionally but without success.

I wouldn't count on it Susie,

My neighbour has "dispensed" 4 squirrels from my garden in the past 6-8 months and I now have another one who sits on my letter-box nut feeder and flicks the V's at me as I rap on the window to try and shift it.....

I'm at the stage of hiring "Day of The Jackal" again to get rid of it.

Well I have just got some cages that I will put up this afternoon, hopefully the birdies will still get enough food to keep them amused so they pose for me!!
