Bird photography competition - Discussion

I have to wear glass and I've done the maths so I think I can use a 400mm giving my short sightedness.

So when do we start posting them Phil?

Can they be cropped etc ?

What do you think, should I make a new post in the Birds section? (With permission from them upstairs?) Might attract more entries then too :)

Yes :D

With a link to here, and a quick run down of the specs.

And don't forget to mention the prize money.

I agree PC, a new thread for the shots.

So where we posting, have a shot or 2 to chose from, not the best though, this proved harder than I thought it would. :D

Interesting.......might give this a go at Etherow on sat, though i`ll look a right plum.

Just waiting for a reply from Marcel to confirm I can post an entries thread over in Birds...then post away :D

OK, I've posted the entries thread..and I've given a week extra if nobody minds? Just in case we get some new interest now it is in a more read area of the forum :)

Are we allowed, like in the POTY to go back in and change them before the deadline ?

Phew :D In that case, I'll post one up now

Isnt the treecreeper a member of the gull family? ;)

Wont be entering, but just to prove it can be done, 20D and 17-40 F4L, circular polariser fitted too lol :) Picture is uncropped !

Pic is a couple years old, and i have absolutely zero interest in Gulls lol

That is an amazing shot Ian... I got what I think is my final shot up now... It still might change..

Do you think it would be a good idea to get the competition thread made into a sticky ? I had quite a time finding it to change my shot. It's gone a long way down the boards.

You mean seagulls? Looking forward to seeing the shots but can the next one be something those of us who don't live near the coast can do too? ;D

Not just Seagulls, any sort of Gull, mine was not taken anywhere near the Sea. :)

I will have to admit to being bird-ignorant then and go off and Google to find what you mean. We don't get any here anyway :)

They're all over the place! Any medium/large white bird tends to be a gull these days in land!

The only big birds we get are pheasants! And medium we get woodpigeons and crows, blackbirds, etc. It's mostly small fry though. Never seen a gull except near-ish the sea (like Edinburgh).

You could always shoot a crow and photoshop it to look like a seagull :D

Shoot a bird that's a long way away at 18mm and say it's a gull ? I doubt anyone would be able to tell :D :D

So what happens now, with the entries ?

Patience...patience! It's not over until Sunday :D I shall organise a vote of some kind :)

:D... sorry, I saw a couple of posts saying it was over... my sense of what day of the week is totally mucked up so I've got no chance on anything over that long

*ber-dong** Its not closed till sunday? Well in that case, you never kn ow your luck, I might just get something in time. Sadly I have existing shots...at 60mm on a cropped sensor :bang: Can anyone enter, no need to have staked your place earlier?

Damn, that's just dramatically cut my chances of getting in the top 6  I should learn to not type these things :D
